Job Description:

We are seeking a highly analytical and experienced Motor Insurance Underwriter to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assessing, pricing, and managing the risk profile of our motor insurance portfolio using both traditional underwriting expertise and advanced data-driven techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

- Risk Assessment & Pricing: Analyze, evaluate, and assess new and renewal motor insurance proposals, determining acceptable risk levels in accordance with established underwriting guidelines and profitability targets. - Data Analysis & Modeling: Utilize analytical skills to interpret complex statistical and actuarial data to identify emerging trends and risk patterns within the motor portfolio. - Premium Calculation: Calculate and determine competitive yet profitable premiums for individual policies and schemes, often involving negotiation of terms with brokers or clients. - Portfolio Management: Monitor the performance and profitability of the motor portfolio, recommending and implementing strategic adjustments to underwriting rules and pricing models as needed. - Collaboration: Work closely with the Actuarial, Claims, and Sales teams to ensure alignment on pricing strategies, claims experience, and new product development. - Documentation & Compliance: Maintain detailed and accurate records of underwriting decisions and ensure all processes comply with regulatory and internal guidelines.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

- Experience: 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in Motor or General Insurance underwriting. - Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative field such as Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Economics, or Business. - Core Skills: Demonstrated high-level analytical, numeracy, and statistical skills with a keen attention to detail and problem-solving ability. - Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for explaining complex underwriting decisions and negotiating with stakeholders.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge:

- Data Science/Programming: Experience or strong foundational knowledge in data science principles and techniques. - Technical Tools: Proficiency in Python (or R) for data manipulation and the development of technical risk models or rating solutions is highly preferred. - Underwriting Tools: Familiarity with industry-specific pricing and underwriting software (e.g., Radar, Emblem) is a plus.
