Role Summary
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, engineering, evaluation, and technical support of mechanical systems and equipment for offshore oil and gas facilities. This role ensures all designs meet project specifications, industry standards, regulatory compliance, and client requirements throughout FEED, EPC, construction, commissioning, and handover phases.
Key Responsibilities
Develop mechanical engineering deliverables including datasheets, specifications, calculations, reports, and BOM for rotating and static equipment.
Perform equipment sizing, material selection, stress analysis, hydraulic calculations, and design verification based on process requirements.
Review and interpret P&IDs, equipment layouts, engineering drawings, 3D models, and vendor documentation.
Prepare mechanical equipment requisitions and technical bid evaluations for static (pressure vessels, heat exchangers, tanks) and rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, turbines).
Ensure compliance with international codes and standards (API, ASME, ISO, ANSI, ASTM, NACE, ABS, DNV Offshore, etc.).
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (Process, Structural, Instrumentation, Piping, Electrical) to ensure integrated engineering solutions.
Provide technical clarification, review, and approval during procurement, fabrication, FAT, SAT, and commissioning stages.
Conduct site surveys, mechanical inspections, and assist construction teams in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.
Support mechanical completion, preโcommissioning, and commissioning activities for offshore platforms, FPSO topside modules, and subsea equipment interfaces.
Ensure engineering documentation is maintained, updated, and aligned with project change management and quality assurance procedures.
Requirements
Bachelorโs degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Minimum 3โ10 years experience in mechanical design and engineering for oil & gas offshore EPC projects (FEED / EPC / EPCIC environment preferred).
Strong technical understanding of rotating and static mechanical equipment and offshore engineering practices.
Familiarity with engineering tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CAESARโฏII (advantage), Staad, Compress, and 3D modeling review platforms (PDMS/E3D/Navisworks).
Knowledge of mechanical material selection, corrosion protection, and offshore environmental considerations.
Excellent communication skills and ability to interface with clients, vendors, and classification agencies.
Preferred Qualifications
Offshore certification (BOSIET/OPITO) is an advantage.
Experience with FPSO topside systems or offshore platforms (fixed or floating).
Professional engineering certification (PE, CEng, or equivalent) is a plus.
