Materials Engineer
Company: KBR, Inc.
KBR’s Sustainable Technology Solutions (STS) group is seeking a Mechanical Materials Engineer to support the Abadi LNG project in Indonesia, one of Asia’s largest LNG facilities. The role includes front‑end design (FEED) for onshore liquefied natural gas facilities with a target production capacity of 9.5 million tons per annum LNG and 150 million standard cubic feet per day of pipeline gas. The Abadi LNG project is designated a national strategic project by the Indonesian government.
Responsibilities
Conduct erosion and corrosion modeling, prediction, and assessment studies using the latest industry software.
Develop Material Selection Philosophy (MSP), Material Selection Diagram (MSD), and Material Selection Report (MSR) during Concept, Pre‑FEED, FEED, and Detailed Engineering phases.
Review detailed design specifications and drawings from contractors and consulting engineers for compliance with design basis, specifications, codes, standards, and industry practices.
Review and endorse consultant/contractor designs; coordinate material and corrosion design reviews, evaluate options, and select the best techno‑economic solutions.
Provide technical support related to material and corrosion across all project phases: Concept, Pre‑FEED, FEED, detailed engineering, procurement, fabrication, testing, installation, commissioning, and start‑up.
Advise on corrosion monitoring product specifications, material selection, monitoring locations, and criteria for periodic inspection of facilities across offshore and onshore assets in upstream, midstream, downstream, LNG, refinery, and petrochemical sectors.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical/Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in materials and corrosion engineering within the Oil & Gas industry, preferably at a premier engineering consultant or oil & gas company.
Working knowledge of international design codes, standards, and company procedures, and proficiency with design software packages such as Predict, ECE5, Hydrocor, and Norsok M506.
High proficiency with industry standards (API, NACE, ISO, NORSOK, DNV, ASME, ASTM, etc.) and with design and fabrication requirements for Oil & Gas projects.
Proven ability in material selection, evaluating corrosion control strategies, and implementing corrosion monitoring techniques for offshore and onshore assets.
Familiarity with corrosion problems associated with tubing, Xmas trees, pipelines, valves, piping, vessels, exchangers, and rotating equipment.
Experience coordinating with contractor/vendor representatives during contractor selection, drawings review, and start‑up phases.
Strong technical, planning, communication, presentation, and reporting skills.
