Job Purpose A defense company based in Abu Dhabi is seeking a highly skilled Principal FPGA Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of FPGA-based systems. This role is ideal for professionals with deep expertise in digital circuit design and FPGA architecture, looking to contribute to high-performance, low-latency applications across sectors such as telecommunications, aerospace, and secure communications.

You will be responsible for the full FPGA development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and architecture definition to implementation and verification. Collaboration with cross-functional teams—including hardware, software, and systems engineers—is essential to ensure seamless integration into broader system architectures.

Key Responsibilities Develop FPGA specifications and architectures from high-level block diagrams and product requirements documents Integrate the FPGA designs with hardware and support overall system integration and qualification System design, integration, debug and bring up in the lab and the field with a vision and clear path on transitioning the product to manufacturing Design and implement system-on-chip solutions that use embedded ARM processors such as Zynq Ultrascale, utilizing DDR, fast serial interfaces such as JESD, 1G Ethernet interfaces, AXI buses, and more Specific knowledge and experience on SoC Zynq and Zynq Ultrascale of Xilinx is a plus Work in FPGA team, that will develop baseband solution for communication waveform, Internet Protocol Communication Interface and Management, High Speed interface connections

Qualifications & Experience

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Background in Telecoms, Cellular, Broadcasting, or Satellite Communications is preferred.

Experience: 10+ years of experience in FPGA design, particularly in the wireless communication domain. Proficiency in VHDL, Verilog, and/or SystemVerilog. Experience with scripting languages such as Python or MATLAB. Strong background in HDL testbench design, verification, and regression testing. Expertise in FPGA architecture, design optimization, and timing closure. Familiarity with debugging tools (e.g., ChipScope, on-chip simulators). Experience with custom FPGA-based PCB bring-up and debugging. Comfortable working in geographically dispersed, multicultural teams.
