Job Description
Indonesia Translators/Transcribers Recruitment (freelance-based)
Based in Indonesia | Fully remote work
EJF works internationally to inform policy and drive systemic, durable reforms to protect our environment and defend human rights. We investigate and expose abuses and support environmental defenders, Indigenous peoples, communities, and independent journalists on the frontlines of environmental injustice. Our campaigns aim to secure peaceful, equitable, and sustainable futures.
Our investigators, researchers, filmmakers, and campaigners work with grassroots partners and environmental defenders across the globe. Our work to secure environmental justice aims to protect our global climate, ocean, forests, wetlands, wildlife and defend the fundamental human right to a secure natural environment, recognising that all other rights are contingent on this.
Since 2018, EJF has been actively working in Indonesia to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and labour abuses, particularly against Indonesian domestic and migrant fishers through investigations, media campaigns, advocacy, and film. Each step of the work complements the other to achieve lasting and impactful outcomes in protecting the global marine environment and communities whose livelihoods depend on it.
Our global researchers work closely with grassroots partners in Indonesia to gather strong testimonies and evidence of alleged IUU fishing infractions, as well as their firsthand accounts of potential forced labour instances on board fishing vessels. EJF recognises that this cross-border collaboration is made possible by the extensive work of our translators.
EJF is now seeking two translators to join our work in Indonesia! The successful candidates will be tasked with providing interview transcripts and other translation services to support the work of our researchers, thereby facilitating EJF’s objectives, on a temporary/freelance basis.
