Role Overview We are looking for a

hands-on Technical Lead (Backend)

to join a high-performing engineering team, reporting to the Engineering Manager. This is a senior contract role for someone who can

set the technical direction, raise engineering standards, and lead delivery from day one .

You will take ownership of core backend services that power key digital platforms, making

strong architectural decisions, driving best practices, and actively mentoring engineers . Alongside deep technical expertise, you must be confident working with Product, Delivery, and Engineering leadership, influencing direction and ensuring high-quality outcomes.

This role requires a contractor mindset —

decisive, delivery-focused, and comfortable taking responsibility for technical leadership across services .

Key Requirements Demonstrable

technical excellence in NodeJS

within complex, production-scale systems Strong

system design and architecture experience

(scalability, resilience, performance) Proven track record

mentoring and levelling up other engineers Experience

leading technical direction and setting engineering standards Confidence

making and owning technical decisions in collaboration with stakeholders Deep experience with

AWS and PostgreSQL in cloud-native environments

Technology NodeJS, PostgreSQL, AWS, distributed systems architecture
