Software Engineer - Payments FinTech (London/Amsterdam)

A global payments FinTech is seeking to strengthen its Commercial team by hiring a driven and ambitious Software Engineer. This role sits at the intersection of engineering, data, and business strategy, building the tools and platforms that transform complex payments data into actionable insights for commercial, product, and leadership teams.

You will design and develop scalable data-driven applications, enabling the business to better understand customer behaviour, revenue performance, market opportunities, and operational efficiency. Key Responsibilities Design, build, and maintain internal tools and services that support commercial analytics and reporting Develop scalable backend systems and data pipelines to process high-volume payments data Collaborate with data analysts, product managers, and commercial stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions Improve data accessibility and reliability across the organisation Contribute to the architecture and evolution of the Commercial Insights platform Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following engineering best practices Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and sprint planning Monitor system performance and troubleshoot production issues Continuously identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve efficiency

Required Skills & Experience 3–5 years of professional software engineering experience Strong proficiency in at least one backend language (e.g., Python, Java, Kotlin, or Node.js) Experience building APIs and microservices Solid understanding of databases (SQL and/or NoSQL) Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) Familiarity with data processing concepts and ETL pipelines Understanding of software design principles and system architecture Experience with version control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines

Desirable Experience Experience in FinTech, payments, or financial services Exposure to data analytics, BI tools, or data warehousing Knowledge of event-driven architectures and streaming technologies Frontend development experience (React or similar) Experience working in cross-functional product teams Understanding of security and compliance considerations in financial systems

Compensation: £70,000 - £100,000 plus bonus
