Title Principal Designer – Piping

KBR’s Sustainable Technology Solutions (STS) group is looking for a Principal Designer – Piping to support the Abadi LNG project, one of the largest projects in Asia. This project will provide front‑end design (FEED) for onshore liquefied natural gas facilities and will have a peak production capacity target of 9.5 million tonnes per annum of LNG and 150 million standard cubic feet per day of pipeline gas. The Abadi LNG project has been designated a project of national strategic importance by the Indonesian government.

The Principal Designer – Piping will be responsible for using S3D for Mechanical, Safety, Soft Volumes, Escape & Transport Routes, Access and Material Handling Routes, Equipment modelling, Package modelling with required TP points, Piping and Pipe supports.

Responsibilities

Review onshore LNG layout design, material handling, piping/piping support design and safety requirements; conduct 3D model reviews as per project requirements.

Effectively manage design changes and provide appropriate solutions during project execution.

Coordinate with other discipline design teams to achieve optimal use of the 3D modelling space and minimize last‑minute changes to the design.

Liaise closely with the pipe stress team to acquire inputs for finalising pipe routing, pipe support locations and types.

Review vendor drawings for static and rotating equipment and packages; ensure nozzle orientations and vessel cleat support requirements align with design requirements.

Perform and check model object clashes regularly; collaborate with other disciplines to clean the 3D model and make it clash‑free before construction.

Assist the lead engineer with the quality plan for layout/piping design, preparing the plan and schedule, estimating, measuring progress, and contributing to technical presentations and write‑ups.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field with exposure to piping layout design.

4 years of related experience, with an average experience ranging from 6–10 years.

Familiarity with onshore LNG piping layout and support design concepts.

Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and coordinate well with piping materials, stress teams and other disciplines.

Hands‑on exposure to the S3D suite of applications, including MDS.

Ability to lead and guide a team of piping/MDS designers on assigned areas/sub‑areas.

Experience as a senior piping designer on similar‑sized onshore LNG projects.

Experience with LNG piping and support design.
