About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Engineer to build a scalable, cloud-based GraphQL API layer that delivers sports and betting data across multiple digital platforms within the CBS Sports digital ecosystem. This role focuses on designing a federated GraphQL architecture, enabling high-performance querying, real-time data ingestion, and seamless integration across distributed systems. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to power next-generation sports and gaming experiences.

Key Responsibilities

•Design and build a scalable GraphQL API layer using federated architecture. •Develop and optimize GraphQL schemas and subgraphs for high-performance data access. •Build foundational capabilities using Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and Test-Driven Development (TDD). •Create robust backend services using Node.js, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Python. •Develop high-volume data ingestion and processing systems integrating streaming data. •Containerize core systems to optimize infrastructure management. •Implement distributed tracing and observability for GraphQL services. •Practice DevOps principles including CI/CD, automated testing, and monitoring. •Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, grooming, and stand-ups. •Conduct peer code reviews and technical deep-dive discussions. •Collaborate with product and architecture teams to deliver scalable technical solutions.

Must-Have Skills

•Very strong hands-on experience with GraphQL (schema design, federation, performance optimization) •Strong backend development experience •API design and management •Experience with AWS cloud services •Experience working in distributed cloud environments with high transaction volumes •5+ years of data engineering/data systems development experience
