Job Summary
Assistant Manager, Business Development is responsible for supporting and executing business development activities related to ship repair, conversion, maintenance, and newbuilding projects. The role focuses on identifying business opportunities, preparing bids and proposals, coordinating with technical and production teams, and maintaining relationships with ship owners, operators, and key stakeholders to drive revenue growth for the shipyard.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Market Intelligence
Identify and develop new business opportunities in ship repairs, dry docking, conversions, and newbuilding projects.
Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and customer requirements within the maritime and offshore sectors.
Assist in developing business strategies to expand the shipyard’s customer base and project portfolio.
Conduct market research to identify potential clients, upcoming tenders, and fleet docking schedules.
Client & Stakeholder Management
Maintain regular communication with ship owners, managers, operators, classification societies, and agents.
Support client meetings, yard visits, technical discussions, and commercial negotiations.
Build long-term relationships with existing and potential customers to enhance repeat business.
Coordinate with marketing teams for promotional activities, exhibitions, and maritime events.
Tendering, Bidding & Proposal Management
Assist in the preparation and submission of tenders, quotations, and technical–commercial proposals for ship repair and newbuilding projects.
Coordinate with engineering, planning, procurement, and production teams to obtain accurate cost estimates and schedules.
Ensure proposals comply with customer specifications, classification requirements, and regulatory standards.
Track tender status, follow up with clients, and support negotiation and contract finalization.
Project Coordination & Commercial Support
Act as a liaison between clients and internal departments during pre-contract and post-award stages.
Support contract reviews, scope clarifications, variation orders, and change management.
Assist in monitoring project progress from a commercial perspective, including cost control and invoicing milestones.
Support resolution of commercial issues and customer concerns during project execution.
Documentation & Reporting
Prepare business reports, sales forecasts, pipeline updates, and management presentations.
Maintain records of inquiries, bids, contracts, and customer communications.
Ensure compliance with company policies, quality standards, and contractual obligations.
Key Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in marine engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or Business/Management
Fluent in English (written and spoken) for business and technical communication
5–8 years of experience in shipyard business development, commercial, or project coordination
Prior experience in ship repair and/or newbuilding yards is highly preferred
Exposure to international clients and tendering processes is an advantage
Strong understanding of ship repair, dry docking, and newbuilding processes
Knowledge of shipyard operations, marine engineering, and classification society requirements
Commercial awareness and negotiation skills
Ability to read and understand technical drawings, specifications, and scopes of work
Strong communication, coordination, and relationship-management skills Analytical and cost-estimation support skills Proficiency in MS Office and ERP / shipyard management systems
Education
Bachelors in Marine Engineering
Diploma in Naval Architect
