Job Description
Based in North Sumatra – PT Timbang Deli Indonesia
Overview
About Verdant
Verdant is a plantation science company in North Sumatra driving sustainable, high-yield solutions for the Indonesian oil palm industry. Our mission is to boost productivity on existing land — helping reduce deforestation, lower emissions, and strengthen long-term food security.
We combine world-class plantation science with hands-on field implementation. From genetics to agronomy and soil health, our teams work side by side to deliver practical science that makes a real difference.
We are now expanding our Agronomy Science team to strengthen sustainable agronomy programs — focusing on improving nutrient use efficiency, soil function, organic matter, and long-term plantation resilience through science-based approaches and collaborative field implementation.
What You Will Do
To assist in coordinating fertiliser trials, including plot layout preparation, treatment verification, and ensuring compliance with experimental protocols to maintain trial integrity.
To conduct regular field monitoring and sampling (soil, leaf, and plant growth parameters) to ensure data quality, trial compliance, and early identification of agronomic issues.
To assist in statistical data compilation, preliminary interpretation, and preparation of technical reports to support evidence-based fertiliser trials.
To collaborate with estate teams and senior scientists to ensure smooth trial execution, timely data collection, and continuous improvement of agronomic practices.
What We are Looking For
Bachelor’s degree (S1) in Agriculture (Agronomy and Soil Science), or related field.
Strong interest in Agronomy and sustainable plantation management.
Good statistical analysis, communication, and teamwork skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively across disciplines.
Experience with fertiliser trial, nutrient use efficiency or statistical analysis is a plus.
Fluent in English both spoken and written.

Contribute to a sustainable future for Indonesia’s palm industry.
Join us and help shape the next generation of agronomy science. Please send your CV and a cover letter written in English before end of 31 March 2026.
How many years' experience do you have as a Science Officer?
Agriculture, Forestry & Fishing 101-1,000 employees
Verdant Bioscience Pte Ltd, Singapore (Verdant) was established to significantly increase oil palm yields (per hectare per year) as this is the single most advantageous sustainability criterion available to the global oil palm industry, and there is the physiological opportunity to at least double yields. Higher yield will take the pressure off the need for further deforestation and biodiversity destruction, reduce green-house gas emissions (which arose from the cultivation of peatlands), and increase food supply for the worlds hungry. Thus, the Company pursues ethical and significant sustainability goals, as well as commercial objectives. Higher yields will primarily be achieved by genetics but also improved agronomy and crop protection. Verdant also works on other perennial plantation crops but 95% of resources are currently committed to oil palm.
Verdant is a joint venture plant breeding/plantation science company, incorporated and head-quartered in Singapore in 2013. The company’s largest shareholders are two listed Belgium companies (SIPEF and Ackermans & van Haaren). There is also one listed Indonesian plantation company (Dharma Satya Nusantara Tbk), together with the founders’ company. Verdant Bioscience operates through its subsidiary company, PT Timbang Deli Indonesia, located at the Company’s own plantation, close to the Medan International Airport at Kuala Namu, North Sumatra, Indonesia, where the Verdant Plantation Science Centre has been built. The company employs an expatriate Chair (part-time), Managing Director and Chief Scientific Officer, together with ~30 top Indonesian graduate/postgraduate staff. Total permanent employees exceed 350.
