edX Engineer (LMS/LXP Specialist)

Role Overview We are seeking an experienced edX Engineer to join our core development team. This role requires a combination of strong technical expertise and deep understanding of the education technology ecosystem. You will be responsible for extending platform functionality, optimizing the learning experience, and ensuring system stability for millions of global users.

Mandatory Qualifications Education Minimum Bachelor’s Degree (S1) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related technical field. Equivalent practical experience in software engineering may be considered in lieu of formal education.

Professional Experience Minimum 4–5 years of professional experience as a Software Engineer or Platform Engineer. Proven hands-on experience working on E-learning, Learning Management Systems (LMS), or Learning Experience Platforms (LXP).

Technical Expertise Strong proficiency in Python (Django) and JavaScript (React.js). Solid experience with Open edX architecture (XBlocks, Tutor, Discovery Service, etc.) is highly preferred. Understanding of educational interoperability standards such as LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability), SCORM, or xAPI.

Key Responsibilities Develop and maintain complex platform features within edX, including assessment engines, grading logic, and student dashboards. Customize and integrate XBlocks to enhance interactive learning content. Manage third-party API integrations such as proctoring systems, video streaming services, and digital certification platforms. Optimize database performance (PostgreSQL / Redis) to support large-scale, real-time learning progress data. Ensure the platform complies with international accessibility standards (WCAG) to support inclusive learning experiences.

Additional Skills (Preferred) Experience working with cloud infrastructure (AWS or Azure) and containerization technologies (Docker & Kubernetes). Strong understanding of student data security and privacy compliance (GDPR and educational data regulations). Comfortable working in an Agile/Scrum environment and conducting code reviews to maintain engineering quality standards.
