You will lead the HR department with vision and empathy, ensuring long-term workforce sustainability and capability growth through strategic planning and operational excellence.
You will collaborate across departments-including Legal, Compliance, Government Relations, Wellbeing, and Executive Leadership-to embed HR best practices that support staff motivation, engagement, professional development, and community unity.

What you'll do:
As Head of Human Resources in this leading international school environment based in Jakarta, you will play a pivotal role in shaping both the immediate operations and long-term strategy of the HR function. Set the vision, strategic direction, and priorities for Human Resources to ensure sustainable workforce growth and cost efficiency within the school.
Oversee the development and implementation of HR policies, frameworks, and systems that are relevant, fair, inclusive, and legally compliant.
Lead annual strategic planning and budget cycles for the HR department while reporting regularly on key staffing metrics and progress to senior leadership.
Collaborate with colleagues in Wellbeing to integrate approaches for staff motivation, engagement, professional growth, organisational culture, and community belonging.
Provide leadership oversight for workforce planning, talent development, performance management, succession planning, employee relations, and industrial relations strategy.
Advise senior executives on staff-related matters including organisational capability challenges and change management solutions.
Ensure safeguarding principles are embedded throughout recruitment processes and HR strategies to protect children and uphold child protection policies.
Work closely with Legal, Compliance, and Government Relations teams to align HR decisions with broader regulatory requirements.
Partner with school leadership to ensure HR services fully support wellbeing initiatives as well as learning, teaching governance, and student experience.
Promote Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) practices within your area of responsibility by completing risk assessments as appropriate.
What you bring:
To excel as Head of Human Resources in this Jakarta-based international school setting you must bring substantial experience from senior HR leadership roles-ideally spanning both Indonesian contexts as well as global education environments. Your academic background should include a bachelor's degree in human resources or psychology or business administration (with advanced degrees/certifications highly regarded). You'll need proven expertise across all facets of HR strategy-from talent management through organisational development-combined with deep familiarity regarding local labour laws/regulatory frameworks governing educational institutions. Your interpersonal strengths will shine through your ability to communicate fluently in both Bahasa Indonesia & English while negotiating complex issues empathetically among diverse teams. Ethical conduct is paramount: your warmth & authenticity must foster trust among staff members from varied backgrounds while modelling inclusivity/cultural sensitivity at every turn. Experience advising senior executives on change management solutions plus commitment toward safeguarding/child protection standards ensures you're ready for this influential role.
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management or Psychology or Business Administration or related discipline is required for this position.
At least 10 years of professional experience including 5 years in senior human resource leadership roles within Indonesia or internationally.
Proven expertise in HR strategy development; organisational development; talent management; retention; industrial relations at a leadership level.
Comprehensive knowledge of Indonesian Labour Law; regulatory frameworks; compliance principles relevant to education sector operations.
Demonstrated ability to lead diverse functional teams; influence senior stakeholders; build organisational capability through collaborative approaches.
Strong interpersonal skills combined with excellent communication abilities; negotiation skills; strategic problem-solving proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia & English.
Ethical approach to leadership characterised by warmth; authenticity; inclusivity; cultural sensitivity bridging perspectives between Indonesian & international staff.
Experience representing organisations internally/externally with credibility while embodying values such as empathy & respect in every interaction.
Commitment to upholding safeguarding/child protection policies alongside responsible use of personal data according to relevant procedures.
Desirable: Master's degree in related field; Professional HR Certification (SHRM-SCP/CIPD/CHRP); Experience working within international schools/global education settings.
