Job Description
The Operations Network Security Engineer role will be involved in supporting and applying OT network assessment and design technologies, as well as BAU operations related to network infrastructure, network security, and backup and restoration activities.
This role also responsible for preparing design specifications and detailed technical documentation related to OT country projects.
Responsibilities
Operational & Infrastructure Management
Maintain and support OT network, firewall, and security systems to ensure high availability and performance for manufacturing operations.
Administer and secure server, storage, and virtualization platforms (VMware), including patching, snapshots, and RBAC controls.
Perform system backup, restore, and disaster recovery testing for critical production systems.
Collaborate with IT and operations teams to resolve L2/L3 incidents and perform root-cause analysis.
Network & Security Engineering
Design and implement IT/OT network segmentation, VLAN structures, and secure architecture in line with corporate standards.
Eliminate multihomed devices and enforce one-way data flow using firewalls, DMZs, or data diodes.
Monitor and manage industrial firewall policies, VPNs, and switch configurations for OT environments.
Conduct vulnerability scanning, patching, and system hardening for servers, PLCs, and SCADA systems.
Cybersecurity & Risk Management
Coordinate with corporate cybersecurity teams for threat detection, log correlation, and incident response.
Implement access control and password management for OT assets (servers, PLCs, SCADA, and engineering workstations).
Contribute to OT risk monitoring by tracking critical controls, risk indicators, and remediation progress.
Project & Digitalization Support
Participate in or lead digital and automation projects, ensuring network design and cybersecurity requirements are integrated.
Support deployment of manufacturing systems and industrial IoT connectivity with secure network integration.
Work with vendors and engineering teams during project commissioning, testing, and cutover activities.
Documentation & Compliance
Maintain up-to-date network diagrams, configuration baselines, and change logs.
Support global OT security standards implementation, ensuring compliance with BlueScope policies.
Provide L2/L3 technical support, guidance, and training for plant maintenance and production teams.
Qualification And/or Experience Required
Bachelor’s degree in IT, Network Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering.
3+ years’ experience in network, security, or infrastructure roles (industrial/manufacturing experience is a plus).
Hands-on experience with:
Cisco network devices (routing, switching, VLANs, VPNs, firewalls).
Windows Server and VMware/Hyper-V administration.
System backup and restore processes (Veeam, Veritas, or equivalent).
Understanding of network segmentation, firewall rules, and cybersecurity fundamentals.
Ability to perform troubleshooting, documentation, and coordination with multiple teams (IT, operations, vendors).
Preferred Qualification And/or Experience Required
Experience in OT or manufacturing environments with exposure to PLCs, SCADA, or industrial networks.
Familiarity with IEC 62443 or NIST cybersecurity standards.
Working knowledge of SIEM, log analysis, and incident response processes.
Experience with network design, hardening baselines, and patch management for L2/L3 systems.
Certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Certified Associate, or VMware Associate (VCTA/VCP).
