Position Summary The AV CAD Engineer is responsible for producing detailed audiovisual system drawings, schematics, and documentation that support the design, installation, and commissioning of integrated AV solutions across corporate, government, and enterprise environments. This role bridges the gap between system design engineering and field execution, translating functional requirements into precise, buildable documentation packages. The ideal candidate brings strong technical drafting skills alongside a working knowledge of AV systems including video conferencing, digital signage, sound reinforcement, control systems, and signal distribution.

Key Responsibilities ️ AV System Documentation & Drafting Create detailed AV construction drawing packages using AutoCAD and/or Revit, including floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, elevation views, rack layouts, cable schedules, and signal flow diagrams. Develop system schematics and one-line diagrams for audio, video, control, and network infrastructure in collaboration with design engineers. ️ Produce accurate equipment rack elevation drawings with proper ventilation, cable management, and power planning. Generate conduit and pathway drawings coordinated with electrical and low-voltage infrastructure plans. Maintain drawing standards, title blocks, symbol libraries, and layering conventions in accordance with company and industry best practices.

Design Coordination & Engineering Support Work closely with AV design engineers and project managers to interpret system requirements and translate them into buildable documentation. ️ Coordinate with architects, MEP consultants, and general contractors to ensure AV infrastructure is properly integrated into overall building design. Review architectural and electrical drawings for AV pathway conflicts, mounting requirements, and spatial constraints.

Standards & Quality Assurance ✅ Ensure all drawings comply with AVIXA, BICSI, and relevant NEC/building code standards. Perform quality checks on drawing packages prior to release to field teams or clients. Maintain and update as-built documentation throughout the project lifecycle. Develop and refine standard drawing templates and detail libraries for recurring room types such as Microsoft Teams Rooms, huddle spaces, boardrooms, and town hall spaces.

Collaboration & Communication Interface with internal stakeholders including sales engineers, project managers, and field technicians to clarify design intent and resolve installation questions. Support site survey efforts by reviewing field measurements and photos to produce accurate existing-condition drawings. Contribute to the development of AV system standards and design guidelines for key client accounts.

Qualifications ✅ Required 1+ years of experience in AV system drafting and documentation, preferably within an AV integration firm. Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D drafting required; 3D modeling a plus). Strong understanding of AV system components and signal flow, including audio DSPs, video switchers/matrices, control processors, displays, and loudspeaker systems. Familiarity with AV manufacturers such as Crestron, QSC, Shure, Biamp, Extron, and equivalent product lines. ️ Ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical, and low-voltage drawings. Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and consistency in deliverables. ️ Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple drawing packages across concurrent projects.

⭐ Preferred Experience with Revit and BIM workflows for AV system coordination. CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) certification or progress toward certification. Familiarity with Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom Rooms, and unified communications platform requirements. ️ Experience with Bluebeam Revu for drawing markup and collaboration. Knowledge of sound masking system layout and design (e.g., Cambridge Sound Management, Biamp Qt).

Additional Experience ️ Understanding of digital signage system architecture and content distribution infrastructure. ️ Experience producing documentation for government or enterprise clients with specific compliance standards.
