Legal and Compliance Manager – Chinese Speaker (#402)
Location : Jakarta, Indonesia. The role is based in Jakarta.
Client Overview
Our client is a subsidiary of two major Chinese industrial groups. Established in 2017 in Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia, the company operates an integrated stainless steel smelting project specializing in nickel ore smelting and stainless steel production. It is a key initiative under China’s Belt and Road framework and a national strategic project by the Indonesian government.
Job Role
The Legal and Compliance Manager will oversee legal advisory, risk management, and compliance functions, ensuring operation in full adherence to Indonesian laws, international regulations, and internal governance standards. Responsibilities include drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, managing corporate legal matters, leading compliance programs related to manufacturing and mining operations, internal audits, regulatory filings, and policy development, while supporting the Head of Legal and Vice GM. Fluency in Mandarin is critical for liaising with foreign stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Advisory and Corporate Governance
Provide legal counsel across commercial, corporate, and operational matters.
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and legal documents.
Ensure corporate documentation, licensing, and regulatory filings comply with Indonesian laws.
Compliance and Risk Management
Develop and implement compliance frameworks and internal policies in alignment with industry best practices.
Conduct compliance audits, risk assessments, and training sessions for internal teams.
Monitor evolving regulatory requirements, particularly in manufacturing and mining sectors.
Dispute Resolution
Manage dispute resolution, litigation, and arbitration processes as required.
Serve as liaison with regulators, government agencies, and external counsel.
Cross‑border Communication
Act as the main bridge between OSS’s local operations and Mandarin‑speaking stakeholders.
Ensure smooth communication in cross‑border transactions, compliance discussions, and legal negotiations.
Candidate Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Law; licensed advocate an advantage.
Experience: Minimum 7 years of extensive legal experience, including 3 years at a managerial level.
Specialization: Background in compliance and regulatory functions.
Industry: Experience in manufacturing or mining.
Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of Indonesian corporate law, contracts, compliance frameworks, and dispute management.
Professional Qualities: Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and stakeholder management skills; ability to lead a small team and work with senior executives.
Language: Professional fluency in Mandarin and English (both spoken and written).
