Job Description
The Sales Specialist & Consultant role is a hybrid position that requires an average of two days per week in an HPE office.
You will collaborate with Account Managers and provide specialist expertise within the sales team, driving proactive campaigns to build the pipeline and closing opportunities.
The role may involve working with named accounts, defined geographies, or high‑potential competitive accounts.
Responsibilities
Create and drive a sales pipeline, capturing leads outside of your specialization and using closed‑loop lead management for assignment and follow‑up.
Maintain knowledge of competitors to strategically position HPE products and services.
Seek new opportunities and expand existing ones to build the pipeline and pursue deals.
Provide support to Account Managers with business‑development and solution expertise.
Develop quota objectives and future direction for a defined product category.
Sell outsourcing deals where applicable.
Establish consultative relationships with clients, up to C‑level for mid‑to‑large accounts.
Leverage external partners to deliver sales solutions.
For Services Consultants: focus on growing contractual renewals for mid‑to‑large accounts toward higher‑total contract‑value renewals.
Direct or coordinate supporting sales activities.
Education and Experience Required
University or Bachelor's degree and directly related previous work experience.
Progressive quota achievement, experience with diverse business customers, and higher‑level customer interface.
Extensive selling experience within the industry and on similar products.
Typically 8–12 years of advanced sales experience.
Project management skills.
2–3 years of product sales in the desired specialty.
Knowledge and Skills
Expertise in products, solutions, or services and knowledge of competitors.
Understanding of industry, market segments, and integration of this knowledge into consultative selling.
Application of program or project management methods to define, plan, cost, and track pursuits.
Knowledge of IT roles and how HPE solutions address vertical industry challenges.
Account planning and accurate revenue forecasting skills.
Collaboration with management and sales teams for seamless integration of specialist sales.
Relationship cultivation with customers to ensure retention and growth.
Leadership and initiative in driving specialty sales—prospecting, negotiating, and closing deals.
High product knowledge and professionalism in researching and sharing information.
Use of Siebel and accurate business forecasting.
Understanding of high‑value software and services sales.
Leverage services as part of strategic product sales.
Expertise on industry trends, solutions, and key partner/ISV offerings.
Additional Skills
Accountability, active listening, critical thinking, empathy, financial acumen, growth mindset, customer experience strategy, and other soft‑skill competencies that support complex sales.
