The Biodiversity and Nature Specialist will lead the design, development, and implementation of nature-positive programmes both within and outside of the company’s operational assets. The role is responsible for delivering biodiversity, freshwater management, and climate adaptation outcomes aligned with global best practices and standards, including the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), Science-Based Targets for Nature, and other relevant frameworks.
This is a strategic and hands‑on role that bridges science and implementation, working with internal teams and external partners to deliver measurable impact on ecosystem health and climate resilience.
Job Description
Lead the development of biodiversity and nature conservation strategies and landscape‑based programmes aligned to the company’s Biodiversity and Nature policy, strategy and targets.
Working with relevant internal teams and external service providers to identify high‑priority ecosystems, species, and freshwater resources within and around operational landscapes through risk assessments, field surveys, and data analysis.
Incorporate international frameworks and standards (e.g., TNFD, SBTN, Ramsar, IUCN, IPBES) into programme design to ensure alignment with global best practice.
Integrate climate adaptation objectives into biodiversity projects to build long‑term ecological and operational resilience.
Develop project plans, budgets, and timelines for biodiversity and nature conservation initiatives.
Identify and engage with third‑party partners including conservation NGOs, research institutions, and local community groups to co‑develop and implement biodiversity and freshwater conservation projects.
Serve as the internal focal point for biodiversity and nature‑related matters, providing expert advice to operations, sustainability, supply chain and external affairs teams.
Support cross‑functional integration of biodiversity and nature goals within broader sustainability, climate, and land‑use planning strategies, for example to support certification requirements and the delivery of nature based solutions.
Implementation Oversight
Manage the delivery of biodiversity and freshwater‑related projects, ensuring on‑time, on‑budget execution in line with agreed objectives.
Ensure stakeholder participation and inclusion, especially from local communities, in the design and implementation of nature‑positive programmes.
Apply adaptive management approaches to adjust project activities based on monitoring results and field‑based feedback.
Monitoring, Reporting & Evaluation
Establish and oversee robust monitoring, evaluation, and reporting (MER) systems to track biodiversity, ecosystem services, and freshwater outcomes.
Support data collection, analysis, and reporting for nature‑related disclosures (e.g., TNFD), sustainability reports, and certification schemes (e.g., RSPO, ISPO).
Develop metrics and indicators to evaluate impact and performance, in line with best practice science and sectoral benchmarks.
Produce internal reports and external communication materials that highlight project outcomes and lessons learned.
Job Requirements
Master’s degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Conservation Biology or related field.
Minimum 7-10 years of professional experience in biodiversity conservation, ecological restoration, or nature‑based solutions—ideally in tropical agriculture or similar sectors.
Solid understanding of international frameworks and guidance for biodiversity and nature (e.g., TNFD, SBTN, IPBES, IUCN Red List).
Experience with climate change adaptation strategies, ecosystem‑based approaches, and/or freshwater conservation is highly desirable.
Proven track record in programme design, implementation, and impact assessment.
Strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills, especially in multi‑stakeholder or community‑based contexts.
Ability to translate technical ecological data into actionable insights for business and operational teams.
Fluency in Bahasa Indonesia required; ability to work in English is an advantage.
