Position Summary
The Electric Motor Senior Engineer is responsible for the design, development, certification support, and lifecycle management of electric motors used in aerospace, defense, and automotive propulsion systems. The role focuses on delivering high‑reliability, safety‑critical, and high‑performance electric machines that meet stringent regulatory, environmental, and operational requirements.
The position provides technical leadership within complex, multidisciplinary propulsion programs and combines deep technical expertise with project coordination and cross‑functional collaboration across performance, mechanical, and software teams.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Design
Lead the design and development of electric motors for propulsion applications, including e‑propulsion, hybrid systems, auxiliary power units, and actuation systems.
Define motor architectures considering power density, efficiency, thermal limits, redundancy, and fault tolerance.
Develop detailed electromagnetic, thermal, and mechanical designs, including winding topology, materials, cooling approaches, and insulation systems.
Serve as a technical authority during design reviews, trade studies, and technical risk assessments.
Conduct advanced electromagnetic, thermal, and structural simulations using industry-standard tools (e.g., ANSYS Maxwell, JMAG, Motor‑CAD, MATLAB/Simulink).
Optimize designs for efficiency, NVH, mass, reliability, and survivability under extreme operating conditions.
Systems Integration & Testing
Support motor‑inverter‑control system integration, including torque control, efficiency mapping, and fault detection strategies.
Define and support prototype builds, qualification testing, and validation activities, including performance, endurance, vibration, thermal cycling, and environmental testing.
Analyze test results, lead root‑cause investigations, and implement corrective design actions.
Support certification and compliance activities in line with standards such as DO‑160, DO‑254, MIL‑STD, ISO 26262, IEC/ISO frameworks.
Lifecycle, Production & Field Support
Provide engineering support for production ramp‑up.
Support resolution of field issues and contribute to in‑service performance improvements.
Collaboration
Work closely with power electronics, controls, systems engineering, mechanical, test, and quality teams.
Interface with customers, suppliers, and regulatory stakeholders on technical matters.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical capability building and knowledge transfer within the engineering organization.
Collaborate with manufacturing and supply chain teams to ensure design for manufacturability, quality, and repeatability.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
Master’s degree or PhD in Electric Machines, Power Engineering, or Propulsion Systems is
highly preferred .
8+ years
of experience in electric motor design for aerospace, defense, or automotive propulsion systems.
Demonstrated experience working on
safety‑critical or mission‑critical products
across the full development lifecycle.
Deep knowledge of electric machine theory, propulsion systems, and high‑power electric drives.
Strong experience with simulation, modeling, and test correlation.
Familiarity with certification frameworks, reliability engineering, and functional safety concepts.
