Job Description
The Senior / Research Fellow is responsible for providing evidence to support hypotheses, conducting experiments, and performing data analysis for research projects. The role involves close collaboration with Principal Investigators and external stakeholders, offering assistance in research activities and supporting the operation and maintenance of research equipment and infrastructure within the team and department.
Key Responsibilities
Guide and mentor junior staff and other researchers both within and outside the team, provide regular progress updates, and undertake ad hoc duties as required by the supervisor.
Drive research projects from design through execution to completion, ensuring the smooth functioning of the research and laboratory team.
Scientific Knowledge and Abilities
Stimulate new knowledge and contribute to significant breakthroughs.
Mentor students, research coordinators, and research officers; demonstrate exceptional analytical abilities.
Pose pertinent questions and design projects that challenge conventional thinking and advance research themes.
Make imaginative leaps of understanding across disciplines and beyond academia.
Research Skills
Develop new models, hypotheses, research designs, and techniques for data collection and analysis, applying them in interdisciplinary settings.
Educate, advise, and guide others in information seeking, evaluation, analysis, and interpretation.
Utilise a range of resources for literature searches and manage bibliometrics and citations proficiently.
Undertake challenging projects aligned with the goals of the Principal Investigator and department.
Safety and Research Ethics
Educate, train, and guide the team on health and safety, including chemical and biological safety compliance.
Ensure research and ethics compliance within the department and project teams.
Contribute to institutional policy by directing local policy and advising staff.
Maintain assigned equipment in good working condition and train end‑users on its operation.
Leadership and Management
Analyse unexpected outcomes and demonstrate flexibility in adapting processes.
Influence the setting of standards and define criteria for researchers’ skills.
Seek information and feedback on research direction and colleagues’ professional development.
Build relationships within the team and across the organisation to achieve results.
Education, Training, and Development
Facilitate continuing professional development, including performance assessment and planning effective learning experiences.
Develop staff and foster collaborative relationships.
Other Responsibilities
Supervise and take responsibility for projects and activities supporting the goals of the Principal Investigator’s laboratory and department.
Participate in quality improvement activities.
Requirements
Education - PhD in Life Science, Health Services Research, Psychology/Neuropsychology, or Behavioural Science.
Minimum of 2 years’ postdoctoral experience for Research Fellow and 7 years for Senior Research Fellow.
Proficient in standard statistical or qualitative software (e.g., STATA, SPSS).
Strong scientific writing skills, evidenced by a track record of publications in peer‑reviewed journals.
Passionate about mental health, brain health, and leveraging digital technology for healthcare.
