Senior Backend & Cloud Engineer – Own Production-Grade AWS Platforms in a Regulated Industrial Environment

We are recruiting on behalf of a highly regulated, enterprise-scale industrial organisation undergoing significant cloud and platform modernisation.

This is a hands-on engineering role focused on building production-grade backend systems while owning cloud infrastructure and supporting data platform integration. The environment is delivery-focused, technically mature, and requires engineers who understand how software, infrastructure, and data pipelines connect in real-world production systems.

You will work closely with technical leadership to align backend engineering, infrastructure provisioning, and AWS-native services into scalable, secure solutions.

Your Role: You will operate as a senior backend and cloud engineer responsible for writing production-ready software while implementing and maintaining infrastructure using Terraform. This is not a pure data engineering role. The expectation is strong backend development capability combined with practical AWS platform knowledge. You must understand how data pipelines work (Glue, ETL, orchestration) and how backend services integrate with them - including serving data to applications and use cases. You will contribute to architectural discussions and collaborate with technical leads to ensure platform alignment and delivery quality.

What You’ll Do: Develop and maintain production-grade backend services following engineering best practices Implement and manage cloud infrastructure using Terraform (Infrastructure as Code) Build and integrate AWS-native solutions across compute, storage, and networking layers Understand, support, and integrate AWS Glue-based ETL pipelines and orchestration workflows Collaborate with technical leads on architecture, evaluation, and technical decision-making Contribute to deployment pipelines and cloud platform provisioning processes

Tech Stack: Cloud: AWS Infrastructure as Code: Terraform Data Engineering: AWS Glue, ETL workflows, pipeline orchestration concepts Backend: Python / Java / strong backend engineering foundations Platform / DevOps: Cloud provisioning, CI/CD pipelines

What You Bring: Strong backend software engineering experience in production environments Hands-on Terraform experience managing real infrastructure Solid AWS platform knowledge (compute, IAM, networking, data services) Understanding of ETL pipelines and how backend systems interact with data platforms Ability to contribute to architecture discussions, not just implement tasks Comfort working in regulated, structured, enterprise environments
