Job Description
The Primary Mechanical Engineer is responsible for ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and continuous improvement of mechanical systems and production machinery within the tobacco manufacturing facility. This role plays a key part in minimizing downtime, optimizing machine performance, and supporting production targets while maintaining safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
Lead maintenance and troubleshooting activities for primary tobacco processing equipment (e.g., tobacco preparation, conditioning, blending, cutting, and drying systems).
Ensure all mechanical systems operate efficiently to meet production targets and quality standards.
Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
Analyze mechanical failures and implement root cause corrective actions.
Coordinate with Production, Quality, and EHS departments to ensure operational excellence.
Monitor machine performance and recommend upgrades or modifications to improve productivity and cost efficiency.
Manage spare parts inventory and ensure availability of critical components.
Supervise and mentor maintenance technicians and contractors.
Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and industry standards.
Support installation, commissioning, and validation of new machinery or production lines.
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
Minimum 5–8 years of experience in mechanical engineering within manufacturing industries.
Preferably experienced in tobacco, FMCG, cigarette manufacturing, or high-speed production environments.
Experience handling primary tobacco processing machinery is highly preferred.
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, rotating equipment, conveyors, compressors, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
Experience in preventive and predictive maintenance systems (TPM, CMMS).
Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis capability.
Understanding of GMP and safety standards in manufacturing.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Good analytical and problem-solving ability.
Strong communication and coordination skills.
Good experience in computer and data reporting.
Willing to work in shifts if required.
Strong commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
