Power Cable Specialist (Based in Saudi Arabia)

We are seeking a Power Cable Specialist to join the Technical Services Division / High Voltage Equipment Unit (HVEU).

The Technical Services Division is responsible for providing and managing highly technical and specialized engineering services to support the safe and reliable operation of Saudi Aramco’s electrical transmission and distribution networks.

Your primary role is to provide specialized technical support in regards to designs, standards, commissioning, maintenance, operation, investigation in order to ensure safe and reliable Power Supply.

Key Responsibilities

Review and validate underground cable designs, including, conductor sizing, installation methods, shield grounding, thermal performance, and ensure compliance with company standards, best practices, and applicable national standards for medium and high-voltage cables.

Ensure that the Company's cable assets are fully compliant with relevant standards and regulations, including those for medium-voltage cables up to 36 kilovolts and high-voltage cables up to 230 kilovolts.

Advise on cable routing, clearances, parallel and crossing spacing, and protection methods for cables crossing pipelines, roads, and hazardous areas, applying your knowledge of safety protocols and industry best practices.

Recommend grounding and bonding strategies for cable shields and sheaths to minimize circulating currents and induced voltages, in line with company standards and industry guidelines.

Participate in root cause analysis of cable failures, recommending corrective actions or design improvements to prevent future occurrences and enhance overall system performance.

Develop and implement strategies, policies, and procedures related to assessing the condition of power cables.

Provide consulting and technical guidance to internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders on power cable design, construction practices, and safety protocols, promoting a culture of safety and excellence.

Mentor junior engineers and technical staff, supporting internal training or e-learning initiatives on underground cable systems.

As the successful candidate, you will hold a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university. An advanced degree is a plus.

Professional Engineering certifications, such as: chartership or PE, are preferred.

You will have a minimum of 10 years of experience in the design, development, technical assurance, and assessment of the health of medium and high voltage (MV/HV) power cables using innovative technologies, including: applications from 5kV to 230kV. A background in the oil and gas, utility, or cable manufacturing industries is a plus.

You will have knowledge in governing International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards for power cables and accessories, including different insulation, termination, and splicing technologies.
