About the role The Biodiversity Officer is responsible for executing assigned biodiversity monitoring activities at the project site. The role focuses on accurately performing clearly defined field data collection tasks, following standard procedures, and escalating issues to senior staff to support biodiversity reporting. All work output is reviewed by senior team members.

Key Responsibilities Biodiversity Monitoring & Field Implementation Execute assigned biodiversity monitoring activities in accordance with approved monitoring plans.

Conduct field surveys under close guidance, which include: camera trap deployment for mammal monitoring, point count transects for bird monitoring, nested vegetation plots for plant monitoring, and other basic biodiversity monitoring.

Monitor High Conservation Value (HCV) areas.

Follow established methodologies, safety protocols, and monitoring schedules accurately.

Identify known biodiversity risks during monitoring activities and elevate them to the Expert Team or supervisor.

Data Management & Documentation Perform accurate data entry of field observations for further review and analysis by the technical team.

Assist in updating species inventories using collected field data.

Ensure assigned field documentation is complete and organized.

Operational Support Operate patrol monitoring tools and software as instructed for standard field data collection.

Provide regular updates to supervisors regarding field progress, known problems, and safety issues on assigned tasks.

Compliance & Safety Strictly adhere to wildlife safety protocols and fieldwork safety standards at all times.

Participate in relevant technical training and capacity-building initiatives.

Requirements – Technical Skill Basic knowledge of field biodiversity monitoring techniques (camera traps, vegetation plots, and/or bird surveys).

Ability to accurately collect, process, and manage field data.

Basic species identification (flora and fauna) relevant to project landscapes. A botany background is preferred.

Basic spatial awareness, including reading maps and GPS use.

Basic knowledge of High Conservation Value (HCV) frameworks.

Strict adherence to health, safety, and wildlife protocols.

Requirements – Soft Skill Operational Discipline: Executes assigned work accurately with strong attention to detail. Consistent adherence to standard procedures and protocols.

Field Coordination: Ability to follow assigned schedules in remote or challenging environments.

Communication: Clear reporting for routine field updates to supervisors and the technical team. Basic English skills are desirable.

Team Support: Collaborative mindset when working with field teams.

Safety & Responsibility: High awareness of field safety and wildlife risks. Makes routine, low-risk decisions and escalates unfamiliar issues to supervisors.
