into a modular, service‑based architecture
Replatform to API‑first , enabling richer integrations and more flexibility
Infuse AI throughout
– from product features (recommendations, smart workflows) to internal tooling (DevEx, CI/CD, Copilot, Cursor, Bolt)
Raise the bar on performance, observability, and scalability
to support a fast‑growing, global user base

Senior Backend Engineer , you will be instrumental in driving this transformation.

Hivebrite powers over 1,000 communities worldwide working toward real change. As a Senior Engineer, your work will directly support these communities by making their digital spaces faster, smarter, and more impactful.
Your Role
Design and build scalable backend services
using Ruby, Python, Node.js/TypeScript, or Golang
Lead the decomposition of our monolith
into modular, service‑oriented components
Drive performance and reliability improvements , leveraging async queues, caching strategies, and data modelling
Implement AI‑powered features
(personalisation, automation, recommendations) in collaboration with Product and Data teams
Elevate our internal developer experience , integrating AI tooling (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor) and streamlining CI/CD workflows
Engineer robust integrations
with third‑party APIs, webhooks, and event‑driven systems
Champion technical excellence
across testing, observability, and system design
Shape the technical vision , actively contributing to architecture reviews and long‑term platform strategy
About You
Proficient in one of the following stacks: Ruby, Python, Node.js/TypeScript, or Golang
Track record of building high‑scale backend systems (millions of users, high throughput, distributed architecture)
Experience with service extraction and API‑first designs
Solid grasp of distributed systems, async processing, observability, and modern caching strategies
Interest or hands‑on experience with AI/ML applications in product or engineering contexts
Familiar with Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP), and modern DevOps tooling
Collaborative, thoughtful communicator who enjoys leading cross‑functional technical efforts
Fluent in English (written and spoken)
