R&D Steelmaking Engineer – Steelmaking Process Models Development and Deployment
ArcelorMittal Long Carbon LATAM invites you to apply for the R&D Steelmaking Engineer – Steelmaking Process Models Development and Deployment position.

About the R&D Maizières Process Lab
The lab supports ArcelorMittal’s production plants by developing or improving innovative processes or routes (from cokemaking to metallic coating).
Your role
As a Research Engineer in the Steelmaking department, you will lead studies and support our plants worldwide to tackle challenges from new decarbonised processes or evolving health & safety rules (metallurgy, productivity, quality…).
Key responsibilities
Contribute to the deployment of process models developed by the R&D team and deployed in a large number of plants worldwide.
Help extend the process models to the new decarbonised processes (EAF route).
Participate in R&D projects to develop or optimise processes in ArcelorMittal industrial plants, evaluating new breakthrough technologies and deploying tools that ensure steel grades produced on new routes match the quality and properties of existing grades.
Work closely with ArcelorMittal industrial plants, requiring frequent business trips.
Interact with the entire ArcelorMittal community: Global R&D specialists and technicians, plant experts, corporate teams, and external partners (academic laboratories, technical centres, suppliers) to develop collaborative research.
Requirements / Qualifications
Master’s degree or PhD.
Solid scientific background in material science, thermodynamics, thermochemistry, process engineering, or material characterization.
Experience in model development is appreciated.
Programming experience (preferably Fortran, Python, VBA).
Fluent in French and English.
Ability to write technical reports or research papers and to define and structure research problems, data analysis, and experimental validation.
Good social skills to work in multicultural project teams across different factories; ability to present findings clearly to technical and non‑technical audiences.
Willingness to conduct thorough on‑site analysis and implement improvement action plans.
Prone to travel worldwide.
