Offer Description
The ICube laboratory has about 800 members and brings together researchers of CNRS, University of Strasbourg and INSA of Strasbourg. It isa major driving force for research in biomedical engineering and sustainable development.
We seek an excellent candidate for a PhD on \" Devices based on oxychalcogenide perovskites for photovoltaic and optoelectronic applications \" under the supervision of Dr. Thomas FIX
Inorganic thin film photovoltaic technologies are mainly based on CdTe, amorphous silicon or CIGS. Recently, Pb-based perovskite materials have emerged as a promising alternative but suffer from toxicity and stability. Perovskites are based on the ABX3 formula, with X=Cl,Br,Iin halide perovskites, X=O in oxides and X=S,Se, … in chalcogenide perovskites. Many oxides provide a high bandgap not compatible with the solar spectrum while this bandgap is much lower in chalcogenide perovskites. We recently demonstrated that the oxychalcogenideCaZrSxO3-x provides enhanced stability compared to halide perovskites under illumination, temperature and humidity.
The objective of this thesis is to obtain devices based on oxychalcogenide perovskites for applications in photovoltaics and optoelectronics. The perovskite is grown in thin film by pulsed laser deposition (PLD). Appropriate multilayer systems will be determined thanks to simulation tools in order to obtain pn junctions and solar cells. These stacks will then be fabricated experimentally and the films will be characterized to obtain their structural, optical, electrical, surface and optoelectronic properties. Finally, the best devices will be assessed using our photovoltaic benches available at ICube. The hosting laboratory owns the tools for thin film growth, characterization, fabrication and measurements of semiconducting and photovoltaic devices. A strong collaboration with IPCMS is in place for advanced structural analysis and ab initio calculations.
