Offer Description
Structure & Research environment
The candidate will join the TREX laboratory (Translational Research and Experimental Corneal Surgery) at the Hôpital Fondation Rothschild (HFAR), directed by Prof. Eric Gabison (HFAR / University Paris Cité / INSERM U1342, Institut de Recherche Saint-Louis (IRSL), «Stem Cells Biotechnologies» team). The team is composed of researchers, physicians, pharmacists, and engineers, and focuses on corneal diseases, from understanding physiopathological mechanisms to developing targeted therapeutic strategies.
Scientific context & Research project
Extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) are gaining considerable attention due to their strong translational potential. They are emerging as promising alternatives to conventional cell therapies, particularly because of their delivery capabilities and immunomodulatory and regenerative properties. The present project aims to develop an innovative EV-based therapeutic strategy using genetically engineered MSCs to provide novel treatment options for two rare ocular surface diseases leading progressively to blindness. The project is funded by AFM-Téléthon and conducted within a consortium of laboratories based in Paris.
Mission
The successful candidate will design, conduct, and coordinate complex experimental work, including optimization of gene expression tools in primary human cells, advanced cell culture and characterization, as well as purification and molecular characterization of bioengineered EVs. The project involves functional and therapeutic assessment in vitro and in vivo using dedicated cellular and animal models. Long-term objectives include adaptation to GMP-compatible procedures to enable clinical translation.
