Within the Montataire research center dedicated to Automotive Applications, you will join the Automotive Steel Solution Design team as project leader.

You will integrate a team with the aims to:

Develop new and innovative steel solutions for automotive, highlighting the value created by ArcelorMittal portfolio of steel grades.

Analyze and understand the current/future trends of the automotive industry, identify roadblocks to bring new solutions with value for the Group.

Analyze the competitor materials (aluminum, composites, etc...) on technical & economical aspects.

The team is developing steel solutions on various perimeters where flat steel products are used: Body-in-white, Closures, Battery Housing and Chassis applications. For example, projects and solutions based on MPI (Multi Part Integration) and S-in motion® are among the topics developed by the team.

As part of a global group, the team has strong and regular exchanges with other entities of ArcelorMittal Global Automotive team spread around the world (Europe / North & South America / Asia).

You will participate to multidisciplinary projects (methodology, product, process, testing, etc.) and will participate to the Safety, Quality and Creativity internal processes.

Your role

Within the team, you will manage research projects on components, modules, full vehicle structures in steel for new vehicle with regards to current and future automotive challenges (cost efficiency, sustainability, lightweighting, passive safety, etc.).

As Project Leader, your main missions will consist in:

Management of ambitious engineering projects (from technical activity, budget and planning proposal to presentation of final results and capitalization)

Functional management of a small project team & management of partners and/or sub-contractors

Your activities will include:

Definition of project content and objectives that translates marketing and stakeholder needs.

Proposal of a technical activity to achieve those objectives, with planning and budget proposal including a strong Creativity/Innovation level

Technical watch and state of the art analysis in link with the project

Building and follow-up of risk analysis and associated action plans

Follow-up of the project with key indicators

Analysis of complex CAD/CAE models with softwares such as LSDyna/PamCrash/Radioss (Crash), Nastran, Optistruct

Analysis of the cost of the solutions developed in linked with a detailed understanding of the automotive forming and assembly operations.

Analysis of Life Cycle Assessmentand the sustainability impact on the developed solutions in close relationships with internal partners

Follow-up of partners and/or subcontractors providing results to the project.

Roll-out of project results through exchanges with internal stakeholders, participation to international conferences and exchanges with OEM material & body design teams.

Your profile

Master’s degree in Engineering, in Mechanical Engineering or in a related field

5+ years of experience in Automotive Body-in-White Design

Knowledge on steel products for automotive and their forming & assembly processes

Good knowledge and comprehension of complex CAD/CAE models. Proficiency with softwares such as LSDyna/PamCrash/Radioss (Crash), Nastran, Optistruct.

Advanced English level ; German would be a plus ; French is not mandatory but the candidate should at least have the willingness to learn

Outstanding communication and project management skills.

Good understanding of the stakes and challenges of automotive industry

Strong sense of curiosity and willingness to explore new ideas on automotive engineering

About the Team Within this context, you will be working for the laboratory Automotive Application research center located in Montataire (France) which missions are develop, promote & facilitate the use of new ArcelorMittal products and technologies for mobility and world-wide Applications. Activities and competences of the laboratory are: steel solutions development & roll‑out to our customers, integration of breakthrough technologies to solutions and design/validation workflow, facilitate customer manufacturing of our products, connection with process, product and breakthrough technologies development.
