Job Summary:
MIDAD Energy
is seeking a
Senior Petrophysicist
based in
Madrid
to lead
petrophysical evaluation and interpretation
for our
North Africa projects
(Algeria, etc.). This role focuses on
advanced petrophysical analysis, rock typing, saturation-height modeling (Sw), and reservoir characterization
to support field development and production optimization. The ideal candidate will have
extensive experience in North African basins
, a strong background in
integrating well log, core, and seismic data
, and the ability to collaborate with
reservoir modeling and engineering teams
to drive data-driven decisions.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Advanced Petrophysical Interpretation
Perform
detailed petrophysical evaluations
using
open-hole and cased-hole logs, core data, and special core analysis (SCAL)
.
Develop and refine
petrophysical models
for reservoir properties (porosity, permeability, saturation, lithology, and mineralogy).
Conduct
uncertainty analysis and sensitivity studies
to assess petrophysical variability and risk.
2. Rock Typing & Facies Analysis
Lead
rock typing studies
to classify reservoir intervals based on
lithology, pore geometry, and flow units
.
Integrate
core descriptions, thin sections, and log data
to define
electrofacies and hydraulic flow units (HFUs)
.
Collaborate with
geologists and reservoir engineers
to ensure consistency between petrophysical rock types and dynamic reservoir behavior.
3. Saturation-Height Modeling (Sw)
Develop
saturation-height functions (capillary pressure models)
using
core data, well logs, and production data
.
Calibrate
Sw models
with
production logs, well tests, and dynamic reservoir data
.
Apply
advanced techniques
(e.g.,
J-function, Leverett-J
) to improve saturation modeling in complex reservoirs.
4. Reservoir Characterization Support
Work closely with the
Reservoir Characterization and Modeling team
to integrate petrophysical data into
static and dynamic reservoir models
.
Provide
petrophysical inputs
for
3D geological and simulation models
, ensuring consistency with well data and geological concepts.
Support
upscaling workflows
to preserve petrophysical properties in reservoir models.
5. Well Log Quality Control & Data Integration
Conduct
rigorous QC of well log data
(gamma ray, resistivity, density, neutron, NMR, etc.) and
core-petrophysical integration
.
Validate and
harmonize petrophysical interpretations
across multiple wells and fields in North Africa.
Ensure
data consistency
between petrophysics, geology, and reservoir engineering disciplines.
6. Specialized Petrophysical Studies
Lead
advanced petrophysical studies
, including:
NMR interpretation
for pore-size distribution and fluid typing.
Dielectric and spectral gamma ray analysis
for complex lithologies.
Fracture and stress analysis
using image logs (FMI, UBI).
Evaluate
low-resistivity pay, tight gas, and unconventional reservoirs
where applicable.
7. Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Teams
Work with
geologists, geophysicists, and reservoir engineers
to ensure petrophysical interpretations align with
geological models and dynamic reservoir behavior
.
Provide
petrophysical support
for
well planning, completion design, and field development strategies
.
Participate in
integrated reservoir studies
and
field reviews
for North Africa projects.
8. Mentorship & Technical Leadership
Mentor
junior petrophysicists
and provide
technical guidance
to cross-functional teams.
Stay updated on
emerging petrophysical technologies and best practices
, and implement them in workflows.
Present
technical findings and recommendations
to management and stakeholders.
9. Compliance & Reporting
Ensure petrophysical interpretations comply with
company standards and North African regulatory requirements
(e.g., Sonatrach, NOC).
Document
workflows, assumptions, and results
in technical reports.
Support
audits and peer reviews
of petrophysical deliverables.
Qualifications:
Education:
Master’s or PhD in Petrophysics, Petroleum Engineering, or Geophysics
.
SPE/SPWLA membership or relevant certifications
are a plus.
Experience:
10+ years of petrophysical experience
, with a
strong focus on North African basins
(Algeria, North Africa , etc.).
Proven experience in rock typing, Sw modeling, and reservoir characterization
.
Experience working with Reservoir Characterization and Modeling teams
in
integrated asset teams
.
Familiarity with
clastic reservoirs
and
complex mineralogies
in North Africa.
Technical Skills:
Petrophysical software
:
Techlog, Interactive Petrophysics (IP), or Geolog
.
Reservoir modeling software
:
Petrel, RMS, or equivalent
(for collaboration with modeling teams).
Programming/automation
:
Python, MATLAB, or R
for custom petrophysical workflows (a plus).
Machine learning applications
in petrophysics (a plus).
Core-log integration and SCAL data analysis
.
Soft Skills:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
(English and French mandatory).
Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams
and influence technical decisions.
Leadership and mentoring capabilities

Languages:
Fluent in English and French
