Job Summary:
MIDAD Energy
is seeking a
Senior Operations Geologist
based in
Madrid
to provide
real-time geological support
for our
North Africa projects
(Algeria, Libya, etc.). This role is responsible for
well planning, drilling operations support, formation evaluation, and reservoir monitoring
to ensure safe, efficient, and geologically sound operations. The ideal candidate will have
extensive experience in North African basins
, a strong background in
operations geology, wellsite supervision, and reservoir surveillance
, and the ability to collaborate with
drilling, production, and subsurface teams
to optimize field performance.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Well Planning & Drilling Support
Provide
geological input
for
well planning
, including
trajectory design, casing points, and target selection
.
Develop
prognosed sections, offset well analyses, and geological hazard assessments
for North African fields.
Collaborate with
drilling engineers
to optimize well placement and mitigate geological risks.
2. Real-Time Operations Geology
Monitor
real-time drilling data
(LWD, MWD, cuttings, gas shows) to provide
geosteering recommendations
and formation evaluations.
Conduct
wellsite geological supervision
(when required) to ensure accurate formation tops, lithology descriptions, and sample collection.
Provide
daily geological reports
to operations and subsurface teams, highlighting risks, progress, and recommendations.
3. Formation Evaluation & Coring
Interpret
LWD/MWD logs, cuttings, and gas data
to identify formation tops, fluid contacts, and reservoir quality.
Supervise
coring operations
and ensure proper handling, description, and analysis of core samples.
Integrate
real-time data with offset well information
to refine geological models.
4. Reservoir Surveillance & Monitoring
Monitor
reservoir performance
through production data, well tests, and surveillance programs.
Identify
geological risks
(e.g., fault encounters, unexpected fluid contacts, wellbore stability issues) and recommend mitigation strategies.
Collaborate with
reservoir engineers and petrophysicists
to update geological models based on new well data.
5. Geological Operations Support
Provide
geological support
for
workovers, completions, and interventions
to optimize production and reservoir contact.
Assist in
well abandonment and plugging operations
to ensure compliance with geological and regulatory requirements.
Support
well intervention planning
by providing geological insights on reservoir connectivity and well integrity.
6. Data Integration & Reporting
Compile and analyze
well data, logs, and reports
to update geological databases and models.
Prepare
post-well reviews and lessons-learned reports
to improve future operations.
Document
geological observations, risks, and recommendations
for internal and regulatory reporting.
7. Collaboration with Subsurface Teams
Work closely with
subsurface teams
(geophysicists, petrophysicists, reservoir engineers) to integrate
operations data into static and dynamic models
.
Provide
geological input
for
field development plans (FDPs)
and reservoir management strategies.
Participate in
integrated subsurface studies
and
peer reviews
.
8. Compliance & HSE Support
Ensure
geological operations comply
with
local regulations
(e.g., Sonatrach, NOC) and
HSE standards
.
Support
HSE initiatives
by identifying geological hazards (e.g., H2S, overpressure, shallow gas) and recommending mitigation measures.
Contribute to
emergency response plans
for geological risks (e.g., well control, kicks).
9. Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing
Mentor
junior geologists and operations staff
in best practices for operations geology.
Conduct
training sessions
on geological operations, wellsite data interpretation, and risk mitigation.
Promote
knowledge sharing and continuous improvement
in operations geology practices.
Qualifications:
Education:
Masterโs or Bachelorโs degree in Geology, Petroleum Geoscience, or related field
.
Relevant certifications
(e.g., SPE, AAPG) are a plus.
Experience:
10+ years of operations geology experience
, with a
strong focus on North African basins
(Algeria, Libya, etc.).
Proven experience in well planning, real-time drilling support, and formation evaluation
.
Familiarity with North African operational standards
(e.g., Sonatrach, NOC) and
clastic reservoirs
.
Experience in wellsite supervision and geological hazard assessment
.
Technical Skills:
Well planning software
