The Manager, AML/ATF Models and Analytics is responsible for developing AML machine learning models for transaction monitoring and AI agent solutions using LLM. This position carries responsibility for the timely and accurate development of AML models. The testing, reviewing, and validation activities include, but are not limited to, creating model documentation, following the AML and Enterprise Modeling Governance standards; stating key assumptions, including qualitative and expert judgment, logic, and conceptual soundness; conducting various tests. This contributes to the overall success of the AML/ATF Models and Analytics team by ensuring specific individual goals, plans, and initiatives are executed/delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Responsibilities

Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.

Develop and enhance statistical/machine learning models in support of Scotiabank’s AML/ATF activity. Includes data acquisition, modeling, implementation, and tuning strategies. Deliverables include models for transaction monitoring alert generation and alert prioritization; analyze alert metrics (e.g., productive vs. non-productive alerts, alerts per transaction) and optimize configurations and parameters.

Design, refine, and optimize instructions for AI agent solutions to guide generative AI models, especially large language models (LLMs), to produce desired outputs.

Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

Ensure adequacy and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations regarding operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk, and conduct risk, including responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook, and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

Champion a high-performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates the team by fostering an inclusive work environment, communicating vision/values/business strategy, and managing succession and development planning for the team.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.

2+ years of experience with statistical/machine learning modeling and/or AI agent solutions, and data science methods.

5+ years of experience programming in languages such as Python, SAS. Experience with databases such as Oracle or SQL Server.

Experience with big-data platforms (Hadoop, Hive, Spark), and Pandas queries.

Experience with cloud-based data platforms such as Google Cloud or Azure is an asset.

Excellent interpersonal, communication (oral and written), presentation, and business writing skills.

Experience with shell scripting and version control systems is an asset.

Solid knowledge of algorithms and data structures is an asset.

AML/ATF experience or analytic knowledge.
