Job Description
Overview
Bridgewater Bank is entering a pivotal stage in its growth as a national financial institution. Backed by the Alberta Motor Association (AMA), the Bank combines security, infrastructure, and advanced capabilities with the entrepreneurial spirit of a fast-growing niche lender. With more than $3.3 billion in mortgages and deposits under management and a distinctive presence in alternative lending, Bridgewater Bank helps Canadians achieve homeownership through innovative products, trusted partnerships, and a client-first approach.
Over the past several years, Bridgewater has invested in enhancing its enterprise risk capabilities. Under the leadership of the outgoing CRO, the Bank established a robust risk framework, strengthened operational resilience, and empowered its first line of defense with greater accountability. The risk function is now more sophisticated, embedded, and forward-looking than ever before.
The new Chief Risk Officer will inherit this strong foundation and lead the function through its next stage of evolution. Reporting directly to the President, with a functional reporting line to the Board’s Risk Committee, the CRO will act as the steward of risk governance across the Bank. This includes shaping and executing enterprise risk frameworks, leading ICAAP and other regulatory programs, overseeing key risk reporting processes, and maintaining productive relationships with OSFI and internal stakeholders. The CRO will also help align the Bank’s risk posture with its growth ambitions by defining risk appetite, challenging assumptions, and integrating risk into capital planning and business strategy.
With a high-performing team already in place – including a seasoned Director of Risk and ten additional professionals – the CRO’s primary mandate is strategic leadership rather than operational turnaround. This is a rare opportunity for a capable, collaborative, and culturally aligned leader to step into an enterprise-wide role. The successful candidate will possess strong regulatory acumen (ideally with OSFI exposure), deep knowledge of financial and credit risk (particularly in residential lending), and the presence to influence peers, executive leadership, and board members alike.
Based in Calgary – one of Canada’s fastest-growing and most liveable cities – this is a pivotal opportunity to shape the future of a high-integrity, high-growth financial institution and to leave a lasting mark on its risk culture, its people, and the clients it proudly serves across Canada.
