Role Overview
The Firm is seeking an experienced
Managing Director
to focus on private company coverage efforts in the Toronto office. This individual will focus on building and maintaining strong relationships with private company owners, family offices, and private equity firms, while originating and executing M&A and capital-raising transactions. The successful candidate will combine proven deal execution skills with a strong business development track record and an ability to be a trusted advisor to private companies navigating growth, succession, or liquidity events.
Key Responsibilities
Private Company Coverage & Business Development
Originate new mandates by developing relationships with private companies, entrepreneurs, and family-owned businesses across Canada
Maintain and expand a network of referral sources including private equity firms, family offices, accountants, lawyers, and wealth managers
Advise business owners on strategic alternatives including growth capital, recapitalizations, acquisitions, divestitures, and full company sales
Strong ability to network within the Firm's wealth management network to generate deal flow
Deal Origination & Execution
Lead full lifecycle of transactions: pitch, structuring, negotiation, due diligence, and closing
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, delivering independent, trusted advice
Manage internal deal teams and ensure high-quality deliverables, including presentations, information memoranda, and valuation analyses
Mentor junior and mid-level bankers, fostering technical expertise, client-focused judgment
Contribute to growth of Firm's private company coverage; shaping strategy and sector focus
Qualifications & Experience
10+ years of investment banking or advisory experience, with focus on private company transactions in Canada
Established relationships with entrepreneurs, family-owned businesses, and private equity investors
Proven track record of originating, executing, and closing middle-market M&A and financing transactions
Highly organized, willing to hustle, business development minded, entrepreneurial mindset
Deep transaction experience in one or more sectors relevant to the Firm (such as diversified industrials, manufacturing, consumer, technology)
Strong negotiation skills and ability to navigate complex private company dynamics, including multi-stakeholder decision-making
Excellent interpersonal skills and relationship building skills in order to develop, manage and leverage relationships with clients and internal business partners
Unquestioned professionalism, ethics and reputation
Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or other advanced degree an asset
