The Manager, Global Finance - Subsidiary Financial Accounting and Reporting is responsible for the daily co-ordination of the preparation and review of Broadridge sub-ledger system into PeopleSoft (version 8.9) general ledger and various key reconciliations, including commission, intercompany and bank accounts, ensuring all month end deadlines for SCI’s general ledger and closing procedure are met. Hands on involvement in the preparation and review of the P&L and Balance Sheet for Bank Reporting. The Manager provides financial reporting and management reporting in accordance with reporting requirements of its parent (BNS), Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO), IFRS, government authorities and regulatory bodies. The Manager also supervises a team of two analysts and is responsible for the performance of the team on various financial information processing and analyses.
Responsibilities
Responsible for statement of financial position and income statement reporting for Scotia Capital Inc. & subsidiaries
Oversee compilation of balance sheet for Bank reporting and review monthly and quarterly expense variance analysis reports
Manage bank reconciliations, expense allocations, subordinated loan interest schedule, issuer commissions, intercompany reconciliation processes through direct reports
Prepare various journal entries both in EGL and in PeopleSoft including expense accruals, off-book P&L and balance sheet adjustments
Reconcile intercompany balances amongst different teams (e.g. Payment Operations and SCUSA) and initiate quarterly settlement
Manage year-end external audit process and notes disclosure to financial statements
Complete and review client audit requests
Prepare financial costs, related party and other notes disclosure
Review the notes to the regulatory financial statements (Form 1) and the audited financial statements for Scotia Capital Inc. and assist in year-end financial audit tasks
Develop, maintain and analyze specific accounting and management reports including
Prepare monthly actual to estimate management report and maintain nVision report template in PeopleSoft
Complete and deliver client request forms (CRFs) to maintain B204 mapping table, chart of accounts, reporting trees, and nVision templates to ensure business line reporting is up to date
Maintain SharePoint user access and the various folders within the data repository
Oversee the Broadridge year-end closeout process performed by direct reports
Provide reliable financial information, analyses and other support as required by senior management
Participate monthly MFR regulatory meeting to provide informative information to key team members
Identify the potential impact of changes/initiatives and provide appropriate feedback or recommendation
Actively participate in PeopleSoft system upgrade initiative by providing detail processes and liaising with key project stakeholders
Respond to ad-hoc financial projects as assigned
Handle customer queries (both internal and external) with respect to on-going operations
Qualifications
Requires equivalent of a university degree and an accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) along with minimum five years of working experience in an investment or financial institution industry.
Solid background in accounting is essential to comprehend, interpret and compile complex projects, together with proven organizational skills.
Ability to adapt to a number of conflicting deadlines and quickly grasp and work independently with minimal supervision.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior internal stakeholders and external professional practitioners.
Expertise in General Ledger systems, with proven proficiency in PeopleSoft Financials (GL, AP) and associated reporting tools (e.g., OBI, SmartView, nVision, Broadridge).
Strong analytical and leadership capabilities to address complex challenges and effectively lead, motivate, mentor, and develop staff.
High level of mental effort is required with medium amount of non-routine functions.
