Overview
Technical Consulting Director, Hydrologist is a senior leadership role in our Water practice. You will design and lead the execution of water studies for major mining projects across Canada. You will work through the mining life-cycle to support environmental assessments, permitting, operational decisions, and closure planning. Location options include offices in downtown Vancouver, Calgary or Toronto, remote work, or a hybrid model. This is a senior leadership role where you help shape our strategy and grow the business in Canada.

As a
Technical Director
with leadership experience, you will provide oversight and technical strength to our Integrated Water Resources team, drawing on hydrology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, and toxicology. You will focus on integrating these disciplines to deliver insights through technical analyses and the development of robust mass balance and geochemical models. This role emphasizes leading water-related environmental assessments and permitting for large-scale capital projects in the mining sector and serving as a main client contact for water management scopes.
Responsibilities
Provide technical expertise to expand our water management services and client base in Canada; act as a core member of the technical team to drive growth in environmental impact assessment, permitting, risk assessment, water resources management and site closure.
Lead the preparation of technical documents in your field; depending on complexity, hands-on interpretation or delegation to junior staff with senior technical review.
Contribute to business development in ERM’s global impact assessment and planning service area; identify opportunities, prepare proposals, and lead new work with clients.
Capitalize on existing ERM client relationships to expand ERM’s profile and market share through technical delivery and business development; be a main client contact and build relationships across disciplines.
Collaborate in multi-disciplinary teams with ERM subject matter experts to integrate work and communicate findings to diverse audiences.
Who you are
P.Eng. or P.Geo with MSc/PhD in civil or environmental engineering or related field.
15+ years of consulting experience in water resource management, impact assessment and permitting in the mining sector, with expertise in hydrometeorology, water balance and/or geochemical modeling, and environmental water quality modelling.
Strong understanding of regulatory drivers in mining and energy sectors; high technical competence and broad knowledge of impact assessment best practices.
Well-developed leadership, integrity, and client-management skills; ability to address client and business needs.
Established technical reputation with regulators relevant to environmental approvals.
Ability to develop and maintain long-term client relationships; experienced people management leader.
Strong English writing and presentation skills.

Compensation and Benefits
Annual base pay anticipated: CAD $134,383 – $162,345. Pay within this range depends on education, qualifications, certifications, experience, location, performance, travel, and business needs. Bonus eligibility applies in some roles. This role may be eligible for bonus pay; casual or contract staff may have different eligibility.
