Role description
Arcadis Building Structural Group works on a wide range of projects including buildings, subway stations, transit facilities, wastewater, industrial plants, and support of excavation across Canada. We are looking for a
Senior Structural Engineer
(P. Eng.) to join our team. The successful candidate will develop and manage projects for the construction or modification of existing commercial, industrial and institutional buildings and structures, ensuring conformance with building codes. You will perform responsible, professional level foundation and structural analysis, building and structural inspections, and engage in structural design on buildings, industrial plants, subway/LRT underground stations, support of excavation, and wastewater projects. You will also work on construction support activities as per project requirements.
The successful candidate will have strong structural engineering design experience, an eye for detail, and a strong sense of urgency, plus very strong written and verbal communication skills. Past experience working on underground and/or surface rapid transit projects (subway, LRT) and support of excavation is an asset. This role requires a significant amount of time dedicated to working in a design environment, meeting with project stakeholders and clients.

Role accountabilities
Provide direction to, and work with, Engineering & CAD staff
Work with design teams to achieve successful project delivery
Coordinate structural design and construction with other disciplines
Collaborate with external stakeholders and clients
Carry out structural modelling, analysis, and design
Prepare and review structural reports and drawings
Conduct periodic site reviews to ensure construction complies with design intent and codes
Review construction submittals
Identify structural deficiencies and provide remedial options
Review constructability, staging drawings, construction schedules and cost estimates
Work with the construction team and discuss the best solutions
Attend meetings with clients and stakeholders as needed
Coordinate engineering and commercial issues with the construction team
Qualifications & Experience
Professional Registration in Ontario or another Canadian province
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; Master’s degree in Structural Engineering is an asset
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in structural design and heavy construction projects
Design experience with complex projects
Proficient knowledge of building codes and standards
Experience with complex construction projects involving P3, infrastructure and/or underground LRT and subway is an asset
Strong communication and negotiation skills with the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; able to independently write reports and correspondence
Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong design and construction support coordination skills
Proficiency in structural analysis software, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), and Acrobat/Bluebeam. Proficiency in Plaxis 3D is an asset
Ability to work in both design environments and on-site; willingness to travel to project sites
