Overview

Principal Mechanical Engineer – Commercial & Retail Sector SearchLabs is working on behalf of one of our key business partners to expand their growing team. The client is seeking an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to join and strengthen their Commercial & Retail sector. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineer to take on greater responsibility in technical delivery, project leadership, client management, mentorship, and supervision. Key Responsibilities

Lead the mechanical engineering function within commercial and retail projects, including design, specification, and execution. Define technical standards, policies, and processes to ensure best-in-class delivery. Develop the business sector strategy: identifying new market opportunities, client acquisition, and sector-specific growth. Oversee project teams, mentor senior and junior staff, ensure resource allocation, schedules, and budgets are met. Maintain high levels of quality, compliance, sustainability, and risk management. Liaise with clients, contractors, architects, and other stakeholders to align mechanical engineering solutions with business goals. Qualifications & Skills

Registered/Chartered Mechanical Engineer (or equivalent) with 10+ years of experience in consulting engineering, especially in commercial/retail building services. Demonstrable track record in business development within this sector. Excellent leadership skills, with experience managing project teams and mentoring staff. Strong technical knowledge in HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, energy efficiency, and relevant codes/standards. Commercially savvy, with ability to prepare proposals, cost estimates, and negotiate contracts. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. What’s in it for you?
