Family Physician - House Medical Officer (HMO)

Overview

Family Physician - House Medical Officer (HMO) positions available at Seven Oaks Hospital. The HMO reviews newly transferred patients to SOGH inpatient units, facilitates medication reconciliation, provides medical coverage to outpatient dialysis patients and inpatient medical patients in various units, and responds to unexpected medical urgencies as Code 25s. The HMO assesses, investigates and treats decompensating patients and liaises with the most responsible provider. If deterioration continues, the HMO helps facilitate transport to a tertiary care facility within the region and has full backup support for Code Blue situations by SOGH EMOs in Urgency Care. The HMO will have scheduled shifts from 1600–2400 hours to provide in-house coverage. Expectation may include minor procedural skills such as casting, suturing, or controlling epistaxis. Responsibilities

Review newly transferred patients to inpatient units and facilitate medication reconciliation. Provide medical coverage to outpatient dialysis patients and inpatient medical patients in Low Acuity Community Medicine units, Geriatric Rehab units, and those awaiting admission in Urgent Care. Respond to Code 25 medical urgencies and assess, investigate, and treat decompensating patients; liaise with the most responsible provider. Coordinate transport for patients who deteriorate to a tertiary care facility within the region. Provide Code Blue support in Urgent Care with backup from SOGH EMOs. Work scheduled shifts (1600–2400) to provide in-house coverage. Perform minor procedures as needed, such as casting, suturing, or controlling epistaxis. Qualifications

Must be eligible for licensure and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba (CPSM). CCFP or other relevant postgraduate training is preferred. Maintain liability/malpractice coverage with CMPA or equivalent, satisfactory to the WRHA. Active certification in ACLS. Compensation
