LEGAL COUNSEL, REGULATORY (5+ years’ experience)

Overview

HomeEquity Bank is a Schedule 1 Canadian chartered bank and the leading national provider of reverse mortgages. The Bank serves homeowners 55 and up, offering a range of reverse mortgage solutions, including CHIP Reverse Mortgage. Founded in 1986, HomeEquity Bank is a portfolio company of Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board. As the General Counsel builds the legal team, the Bank seeks a Legal Counsel to advise on regulatory and capital markets matters. This position is located in Toronto’s Financial District and is hybrid with 3 days in the office. Responsibilities

Provide advice on regulatory matters, including those under the Bank Act, consumer protection legislation and privacy legislation. Collaborate with business units to provide practical legal solutions and risk management guidance. Contribute to corporate funding initiatives, including debt and equity transactions, capital markets activity and regulatory filings. Support related regulatory and compliance requirements across the organization as needed. Qualifications

5+ years’ experience in regulatory law, including the Bank Act, consumer protection laws and privacy legislation. Experience gained from a law firm or bank / financial institution. Understanding of marketing and IP law is valuable; experience with corporate funding transactions is desirable. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to interpret and apply complex regulations in a practical business context. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
