Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Diagnose and treat diseases, injuries, and disorders of the eye and vision system.

Prescribe and administer treatments, medications, corrective lenses, and surgical procedures.

Perform ophthalmic surgeries, including cataract removal, laser procedures, and other corrective surgeries.

Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as visual fields, OCT, and fundus imaging.

Provide preoperative and postoperative care to patients.

Collaborate with other medical professionals to coordinate treatment plans.

Conduct follow-up examinations and monitor patients’ progress.

Supervise, mentor, and provide guidance to ophthalmic assistants, residents, and support staff.

Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with medical and regulatory standards.

Participate in continuous professional development and stay updated on advancements in ophthalmology.

Skills and Requirements:

Completion of bachelor's degree or, completion of a college program— in Quebec and one year of pre-medicine university studies is usually required.

Graduation from an approved medical school and specific specialty training are required.

Completion of the certifying examinations of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensing by the provincial or territorial licensing authority are required.

Five to six years of specialty residency training are required.

Two years of subspecialty training may also be required.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.

Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.

Ability to work accurately in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
