About the Role
The Business Unit Controller is a key member of both the Business Unit leadership team and the North American Finance team. Reporting directly to the North American Financial Controller, with a dotted line to the Business Unit General Manager, this role has full day-to-day responsibility for financial reporting, analysis, and performance oversight for multiple business units. This is an in office position.
You will ensure accurate and timely financial reporting while providing meaningful analysis that supports growth, cost control, and strategic planning.
Core Responsibilities
Prepare balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and supporting financial reports
Lead and support the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
Complete balance sheet reconciliations
Load financial results into Hyperion
Analysis & Business Support
Provide financial analysis and comparisons of results vs. prior year and plan
Deliver daily, weekly, and monthly reporting with commentary
Support product costing analysis
Track and communicate capital expenditure projects
Review excess and obsolete inventory
Develop, maintain, and analyze budgets, reporting on variances
Engage in ongoing cost reduction analysis
Compliance & Controls
Ensure compliance with reporting requirements
Support audit schedules, tax schedules, and internal reporting needs
Support accounts receivable collection activities
Improve financial policies and procedures where needed
Additional responsibilities include ad hoc reporting and special projects as assigned by the General Manager or CFO of North America.
What You Bring
Required Experience & Credentials
Proven experience as a Controller or similar senior finance role
Strong knowledge of accounting regulations and practices
In-depth experience in budgeting, forecasting, and risk analysis
In-depth experience with GST, HST, and RST
Basic knowledge of Canadian payroll taxes and corporate income tax returns
CPA or CMA certification required
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (MBA considered an asset)
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and financial systems
Professional Strengths
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
High attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders
Comfortable operating in a dynamic environment with changing priorities
Self-motivated and able to take full ownership of the business unit’s financial performance
