Area Human Resources Business Partner (AHRBP) – BC – Interior/Fraser Valley
The Role:
Partners with operational leaders (District Manager & Store Management) to ensure strategic plans & operational decisions drive business results, optimize customer service and align with company values.
Contributes to the development of people strategies that support business strategies and objectives and help to drive business and organizational performance. Support and influence key operational and strategic decisions.
Understands the general business conditions that affect the industry, functions and geographical regions while staying current on the research and trends within HR to present an informed point of view.
Serves as an advocate for business leaders and managers.
When in store/field, partners with site leadership to engage and coach associates on the floor to promote a customer service culture
Leverages human capital expertise to advise and hold sites accountable for sustaining engagement action plans (e.g., by suggesting tactics, acting as a sounding board, and reviewing and approving actions plans within assigned area)
Provides input to HR COEs (Centers of Excellence) regarding specific functional strategies, programs, and practices to ensure that they meet business needs.
Key Responsibilities
Succession
Identifies development solutions and provides consulting to leaders on how to effectively accelerate the development of associates (i.e. exposure events, project assignments, coaching, etc.)
Participates in the needs analysis for people leaders to ensure consistent quality of leadership within the market and region. Organizing the market to promote effective succession, and development of key talent.
Coaching & Change Management
Promotes high-performance from Store Manager and Assistant Store Managers through coaching, constructive and honest regular feedback, and the annual performance evaluation process
Provides guidance, coaching, and consultation regarding leading people and organizational management practices to develop site people leaders
As a member of the district leadership team, encourages associates and people leaders to embrace new philosophies, technologies, and company initiatives.
Leads talent assessment and development discussions with site leaders leveraging program, approach, and template guidelines provided by HR COEs.
Coach leaders on change management strategies and resistance management techniques in accordance with the RONA’s change management methodology
Identifies where inconsistent communications or messaging may appear unclear and ensure expected results.
Associate Relations
Investigate & manage associate complaints
Support Litigations that may arise as a result of terminations
Presence management (Attendance)
Promotions, demotions & terminations in alignment with legal statutes and policies
Writing disciplinary letters in collaboration with the manager.
Assists with, reviews and approves all corrective action reports and performance improvement plan documents.
Other Important Tasks
Performance evaluation support with Store Management & District Manager
Manage communications around salary increases + bonus payments
Recruitment needs assessment for Store Managers and Assistant Store Managers
Support & follow up on training with Store Management & District Manager
Other related tasks as assigned.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record as a Human Resources Generalist with a strong background in handling basic and complex Employee Relations situations
A minimum of five years of progressive Human Resources experience, with at least 2 years of experience in a “HR Generalist” capacity
Experience in a multi-unit retail environment is an asset
A bachelor’s degree in industrial relations, business administration, or human resources management is preferred
Available to travel within assigned geographic market (BC Interior/Fraser Valley)
Excellent communication & interpersonal skills, and the ability to adapt/react quickly in a dynamic business environment
The ability to build relationships of trust, influence, and create alignment across multiple areas with sometimes conflicting needs
Show judgment, initiative, and discretion
Be customer oriented, solution oriented, and have a strong bias towards action
Strong analytical skills leading to problem solving
Ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously.
This position will support RONA stores in BC’s Interior & Fraser Valley and ideally would be based out of Kelowna but could be based elsewhere in the Okanogan or in the Fraser Valley, with required regular travel to the other locations within the BC Interior/Fraser Valley. Must have access to a dependable vehicle to travel between retail locations within your immediate geographical area and air travel is required for locations in BC’s Interior/Fraser Valley that are outside of your immediate geographical area. Could be away from home up to 15-20% of the time (on average ~3 nights per month).
