The Great Bear Project in Red Lake, Ontario is a greenfield, large-scale deposit with potential for significant open pit and underground operations.

Responsibilities

The Principal Project Engineer coordinates and interfaces engineering activities to ensure on-time delivery and quality of engineering deliverables. Reports to the GBR Project Engineering Manager and collaborates with GBR Engineering Leads, Kinross Technical Services Engineering (KTS), engineering consultants, vendors, and other subject-matter experts.

Based in Toronto or on rotation to Toronto, with occasional travel to the project site in Red Lake. Initially an 18-month contract; may extend into the Construction Phase with rotation to Red Lake, Ontario.

Support the Project Engineering Manager in coordinating project engineering activities to meet budget, schedule, design, and quality objectives.

Liaise with KTS for subject-matter expertise and involve key KTS members in design, operability, and maintainability decisions.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams of consultants, contractors, vendors, and the project team to ensure quality engineering deliverables for safety in design, constructability and cost.

Coordinate with Kinross ESG personnel on environmental matters, including controls, greenhouse gas emissions, and hazardous materials controls.

Coordinate with the permitting technical team to deliver engineering deliverables on time and to the required quality for permitting.

Support detailed engineering RFP packages for major equipment by coordinating with engineering consultants and the GBR Engineering Team.

Support management of EP contract scope, quality and commercial terms with contract administration.

Participate in procurement plan meetings to support coordination between the GBR Procurement Team and GBR Engineering Team.

Ensure the GBR Engineering Team completes timely reviews of project documents (standards, specifications, datasheets, drawings, vendor data, etc.).

Coordinate the material take-offs process for the capital estimate between the GBR Engineering Team and Engineering Consultants.

Prepare a quality surveillance (QC) plan for major equipment.

Incorporate industry best practices to optimize the capital estimate in project design.

Participate in detailed engineering alignment sessions and workshops, and provide value-added insights.

Address various technical requests from the project team to evaluate design alternatives or optimizations.

Coordinate visits to the Red Lake site as required to resolve problems, interpret drawings, and provide technical support during construction.

Act as a Package Manager for specific equipment or services contracts as assigned.

Prepare business cases and reports regarding the project and related initiatives.

Other related activities as directed by the Great Bear Project Engineering Manager.

Qualifications and Skills

Excellent knowledge of project management and engineering management techniques and standard industry practices.

Strong computer skills, including extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Excellent organizational, writing and presentation skills.

Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships and work collaboratively.

Strong analytical ability to identify trends and anomalies and provide independent judgment.

Ability to contribute to resolving highly complex or unusual technical and operational problems with broad technical expertise to support cross-functional project performance.

Ability to work independently and as part of large multi-disciplinary teams.

Education and Experience

Bachelorโ€™s degree in Engineering.

Minimum of 15 years of related experience in major capital projects, preferably in the mining industry, with field engineering and commissioning experience preferred; operational experience is an asset.

Good understanding of mining and related infrastructure (gold or similar mineral processing), especially in cold weather environments.
