Job Description

The Health Care Foundation advances adult health care in Newfoundland and Labrador as the philanthropic partner to NL Health Services. Through the generosity of its donors, the Foundation funds state-of-the-art equipment, innovative programs, research, and education, empowering health care teams to deliver exceptional patient care close to home. Position Summary

Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and serving as a member of the executive leadership team, the Chief Development Officer (CDO) provides strategic leadership and is responsible for the growth and performance of the Foundation’s comprehensive fundraising programs. Key Responsibilities

Fundraising Strategy and Revenue Leadership

At the direction of the CEO executes a multi-year comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with organizational priorities and system-level healthcare initiatives. Executive Leadership and Board Engagement

Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO on philanthropic growth, donor positioning, and campaign readiness. Support Board members in high-level solicitation efforts and stewardship activities. Represent the Foundation with senior community leaders, corporate executives, and major donors as required. Major and Principal Gifts Leadership

Maintain a portfolio of high-capacity donors and prospects, engaging in cultivation, solicitation, and donor stewardship for transformational gifts. Design structured donor journeys that align with Foundation priorities and healthcare system needs. Fund Development Team and Operational Excellence

Provide executive leadership to the fund development team. Establish clear performance expectations, accountability frameworks, and professional development pathways. Oversee budget planning and financial stewardship for the fundraising function. Ensure compliance with ethical fundraising standards and regulatory requirements. Innovation, Systems, and Data Strategy

Oversee CRM strategy, data governance, and analytics to support informed decision-making and revenue forecasting. Qualifications

A minimum of 10 years of progressive fundraising leadership experience, ideally within healthcare or similar nonprofit environments. Demonstrated success leading major gift portfolios and capital or transformational campaigns. Experience managing comprehensive fundraising programs with multi-stream revenue accountability. Proven executive leadership experience, including team management and cross-functional collaboration. Strong track record of high-level donor relationship management. Completion of post-secondary education in a related field; Business, Public Administration, Nonprofit Leadership considered an asset. Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) designation is an asset. High proficiency with donor management systems (e.g., Raiser’s Edge) and data analytics tools. Leadership Profile
