We are currently seeking a

Principal Metallurgical Engineer

to join our Canada West Engineering team in either Calgary, Alberta or Edmonton, Alberta. This role is a senior technical authority position responsible for providing expert leadership in materials engineering, metallurgy, corrosion, and welding across large-scale, complex projects and portfolios executed by Worley in Canada. The

Principal Metallurgical Engineer

is recognized as a high-level subject matter expert and technical leader, providing strategic guidance, mentorship, and assurance of technical excellence across multidisciplinary project teams. This role supports both major capital projects and complex sustaining scopes across energy transition, conventional energy, and industrial markets. Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Governance

Act as a senior technical authority in metallurgy, materials selection, corrosion engineering, welding, and failure analysis across major projects and programs.

Establish, interpret, and govern discipline design standards, best practices, specifications, and technical frameworks in alignment with Worley and client requirements.

Ensure technical integrity, quality, and consistency of metallurgical and materials deliverables across multiple projects and workstreams.

Provide expert technical assurance and peer review for complex or high-risk design decisions, material selections, and integrity management strategies.

Project & Client Leadership

Provide senior technical leadership on large, multidisciplinary projects, supporting resolution of complex technical, vendor, and client interface issues.

Serve as a trusted technical advisor to clients on materials performance, corrosion management strategies, asset integrity, life-cycle management, and risk mitigation.

Support proposal development, technical bid evaluations, and scope definition for materials and metallurgical work.

Participate in key technical workshops, HAZOPs, constructability reviews, and client technical governance forums.

Engineering Execution & Oversight

Oversee and provide expert input into: Materials selection diagrams and specifications Corrosion control and mitigation strategies Equipment design criteria and material standards Welding specifications and fabrication requirements Mill test report reviews and quality assurance processes

Provide interdisciplinary input to ensure materials and corrosion considerations are fully integrated into mechanical, piping, process, and structural designs.

Support constructability, operability, inspection, and long-term asset integrity objectives.

Coaching, Mentorship & Capability Building

Provide technical mentorship and guidance to Senior, Intermediate, and Junior Engineers within the metallurgy and materials discipline.

Act as a technical escalation point for complex problem solving and failure investigations.

Contribute to the development of internal technical guidance, training materials, and discipline knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Support the growth and long-term technical capability of the metallurgy and materials engineering function within Worley.

Site & Operational Support

Conduct site visits to operating facilities, fabrication yards, and construction sites to provide expert technical support and field-based problem resolution.

Support troubleshooting of in-service issues including corrosion, materials degradation, and fabrication non-conformance.

Ensure compliance with applicable safety, regulatory, and quality requirements while operating in industrial environments.

What You Will Bring

Technical & Industry Experience

Extensive experience in metallurgical and materials engineering within oil & gas, refining, gas processing, hydrogen, CCUS, and/or energy transition facilities.

Deep expertise in: Ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy Corrosion mechanisms and mitigation strategies Welding metallurgy and fabrication practices Failure analysis and materials degradation Inspection and integrity management methodologies

Strong working knowledge of applicable ASME, CSA, API, ASTM, NACE/AMPP codes and standards.

Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership on large, complex, multidisciplinary engineering projects.

Strong understanding of asset life-cycle management and integrity management strategies.

Experience working in data-centric engineering environments and digital project delivery models.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Proven ability to work collaboratively across disciplines, project teams, and client organizations.

Ability to perform job walks and site inspections while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Relevant certifications (e.g., NACE/AMPP) are considered a strong asset.

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training

Required:

Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Metallurgical Engineering (or closely related discipline) with extensive, relevant industry experience.

Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA (mandatory). Moving forward together
