POSITION: District Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf & Hard of Hearing
ASSIGNMENT: Resource - All Grades or Levels
FTE: 0.4
LOCATION: District Administration Office
EFFECTIVE DATES: Commencing September 1, 2025, and continuing
Basic Qualifications:
The successful candidate will hold a valid BC Teaching Certificate and be a member in good standing in the BC Ministry of Education Teacher Regulation Branch AND possesses one or more of the following:
Training Specialization:
A District Resource Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing has a valid teaching certificate with a Master's degree or Diploma in Education of the deaf and hard of hearing. They also are eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Educators for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CAEDHH)
Related Teaching Experience:
Demonstrated successful experience as a School Based Resource teacher/learning assistant
A Reasonable Expectation:
based on a teacher's skills, abilities, professional development and overall classroom teaching experience, that the teacher will be able to perform the duties in a successful manner in collaboration with other professional staff

A District Resource Teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is able to provide demonstrated experience and ability in the following in order to support and train school-based resource teachers.
The Candidate should be able to provide demonstrated experience and ability in the following:
Interpretation and educational implications of audiological reports
Support surrounding the procurement, care, use and performance of assistive listening devices
Participation in meetings as a member of the student's educational team
Provision of workshops regarding the implications of hearing loss and the needs of deaf or hard of hearing individuals
Classroom workshops about hearing and deafness
Liaison between the school and home to facilitate effective ongoing communication
Contact with parents or guardians as necessary regarding areas of concern relating to the student's social, emotional, academic, vocational or audiological needs
Assistance in arranging medical or audiological referrals and/or appointments
Assessment/evaluation of a student's present level of functioning
Support and development of Individualized Education Plan (I.E.P.) for students
Direct instruction, either within the classroom, in a small group or on an individual basis, focusing on academic or social/emotional areas of need, the use and care of assistive listening devices, speech and/or language development
Work experience consultation and support (as appropriate)
Opportunities to meet and/or communicate with other deaf and hard of hearing students
Leading teams, liaise with outside agencies and maintain extensive records of meetings
Ability to support classroom teachers to integrate technology for the purpose of providing access to the curriculum for all students
Collaboratively develop and assess programs and IEPs for students with a variety of exceptional needs
Training and experience in administering curriculum-based assessment and standardized assessments
Writing summaries of assessment results
Facilitating communication and coordinating services and resources through a school-based and working team model
Maintaining accurate and current records of all students receiving support services according to Ministry and District guidelines
Offering instructional support in or out of the classroom using resources appropriate of individual student needs and in accordance with Ministry expectations
Tracking students with special needs from year to year and ensuring all students are accurately categorized according to Ministry and District guidelines
Following all policies, procedures and guidelines for Special Education services as defined in the Ministry of Education Manual of Inclusive Education Services
Willingess to work as a member of the school-based team
Willing to support whole-school environmental initiatives
Commitment to the school-wide Positive Behaviour support program as a form of addressing behaviour in the classroom
The DRTHH assists the District Principal of Inclusive Education in providing services to students and staff in the regular classroom as well as alternate environments and must be able to work in a collaborative and consultative manner with classroom teachers, principals, the school-based team, special education assistants and others.
The starting annual salary for the full-time Teacher ranges from $61,175 to $109,520 with placement on the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement. We also offer a competitive benefits package and pension.
