ABOUT US
The department is responsible for the construction and maintenance of the provincial highways; the provision of the provincial ferry services; management of the provincial government fleet of light vehicles and heavy equipment; operation and maintenance of the provincial government air ambulances and water bombers and construction and management of provincial government buildings.
Newfoundland and Labrador's water bomber fleet consists of five state-of-the-art Bombardier CL-415 water bombers which are strategically located at five locations throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITIES
As the Co-Pilot, under the guidance and direction of the Captain, on Government owned CL-415 water bomber aircraft, responsibilities and duties include:
Pre-flight, flight and post flight duties in accordance with Government Procedures, the Airplane Flight Manual (AFM), Company Operations Manual (COM) and the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARS).
Flight planning and pre-flight checks including fuel and oil.
Checks weather, NOTAMS, communications and navigation aids.
Maintains logs and records of each flight including the recording of all engine and system readings.
Reports malfunctions or snags on the aircraft to the Captain.
At the discretion of the Captain, flies the aircraft during normal and water bombing operations.
ABOUT YOU
As a CL-415 Water Bomber Co-Pilot, you would possess a valid Transport Canada Airline Transport Pilot License or Commercial Pilot License with ATPL/IATRA exam(s) written, with Land, Multi-engine, Seaplane and Group 1 Instrument Ratings. You have a minimum of 1000 hours total time of which 500 hours are multi-engine. Your education includes the completion of a high school diploma.
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
To be successful in this position, you’ll bring a sound knowledge of the Aeronautics Act, the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARS), Seaplane and water bombing operations, and you would be well informed regarding Air Services operations and related aircrafts. Your ability to make independent decisions with sound judgment, sometimes in stressful circumstances will support your efforts in effective delivery of fire suppression operations. As the Co-Pilot, you will perform your duties in a professional manner ensuring you are able to effectively exchange information in this front-line, service position.
Recent / satisfactory Criminal Records Check from local police.
Ability to obtain a Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC).
A valid Canadian Passport.
A valid Driver’s License.
Current Driver’s Abstract suitable to the Employer.
CONDITIONS of ACCEPTANCE
Pilots will be required to be on daytime standby.
Pilots must be able to travel out of province and country, as applicable, for operational missions and training.
Applicants are advised that these positions will terminate for the season on or before September 30, 2026, subject to possibility of extension.
