Description
The Collection Officer is responsible to ensure that all collection activities are carried out in a timely manner which includes facilitating the movement of information between branches, call centres and Up Level and ensures the adherence to the outsourcing contract. The Collection Officer will provide support to our external legal counsel by preparing power of sale assignments and repossessions. The incumbent will ensure the timely and accurate administration of bankruptcies, consumer proposals, posting of collection agency billings, dividend cheques, processing all related functions in relation to garnishments, and other recoveries. The Collection Officer is responsible to ensure the secured and unsecured portfolio risk is mitigated.
Scope of Position

Key Accountabilities
Oversees the administration as relates to power of sales, foreclosures and vehicle repossessions
Oversees the timely and accurate administration of bankruptcies, consumer proposals, posting of collection agency billings, dividend cheques, garnishments and other recoveries.
Analyzes trends (internally and externally) and makes recommendations
Provides support in the preparation of yearly and monthly reports as relates to collection matters
Support to branches and call centre in Collection related matters
Provides support to the Manager and Team Lead in regard to the department’s general operations and inter-departmental initiatives
Dealing directly with internal and external clients

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills
Bilingualism (English & French) asset
Business degree from College or University, coupled with a minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar role or experience in lending within a financial institution. (equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered)
Advanced word processing and spreadsheet skills
Good knowledge of credit, with lending experience a definite asset
Familiarity with the various legislation (includes but not limited to Bank Act, Caisse Populaire and Credit Union Act, Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, Collection Agencies Act, Privacy Acts, Consumer Protection Acts) an asset
Competent technical abilities with respect to collection legislation and Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act
Competent technical abilities with respect to the mortgages act and power of sale and foreclosure provisions contained therein
