Our E&I Engineering team in Upgrading and Utilities team is looking for an experienced Professional Engineer that will support the initiatives related to electrical protection management for high voltage electrical equipment and systems in Power Generation and Distribution (PG&D) jurisdiction at Syncrude Mildred Lake and Aurora Sites.

Minimum Requirements:
Ten or more years of related experience working with High Voltage Electrical Protection systems (preferably in the Oil industry or Utilities environment)
A multidisciplinary background in engineering, maintenance and operations
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering registered as Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA)
Deep understanding of design codes and standards applicable to electrical protection systems (e.g. CSA 22.3, AUEC, NETA, CSA‑463, CSA‑462)
Understanding of Electrical Regulatory compliance requirement for protection systems (PRC‑005, FAC‑008, FAC‑002, ISO Rules, Alberta Reliability Studs, Critical Infrastructure Protection Std)

Responsibilities:
Ensure compliance with all relevant Suncor policies and Work processes including OEMS (Operational Excellence Management System)
Assist with technical issues of improvements, design reviews and specifications, troubleshooting or failure analysis (RCA) for electrical protection
Support our reliability improvement plan and processes related to protection system and reinforce a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration
Execute protection coordination studies to solve potential mis‑coordination in the electrical system and ensure protection operation selectivity
Analyze requirements of protection upgrades in the PG&D system and lead the preparation of corresponding construction work packages
Identify potential risks in the protection system, including but not limited to, obsolescence, end of life asset, design flaw
Support Maintenance execution in the protection system troubleshooting and corrections as well as analysis of protection alarms, revision of protection isolation procedures and protection test reports and the execution of studies for PG&D protection systems (Under frequency Load Shedding, Arc Flash, Protection Coordination, Islanding Management)
Support PG&D Electrical regulatory compliance in the protection area as per requirement of governing regulatory agencies
Location and other Key Details:
You will work out of Syncrude Mildred Lake in Fort McMurray, Alberta
Hours of work are a regular 40‑hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
This position has been identified as safety sensitive
This position has been identified as security sensitive. Successful candidates must clear a criminal history check
You will be required to perform work using ladders and working on elevated work sites such as scaffolds and towers with the ability to perform in a variety of different environments both indoor and outdoor as well as within confined spaces
If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory. Relocation support will be provided
